Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter of the 1st day of Rosh Chodesh* Kislev, the month of deliverance, material and spiritual. You tell me that you have left the place where you were until now (presumably a hospital) and that your state of health therefore continues to improve, despite what the beginning of your letter says.

In the future, you will continue to consult the doctor and follow his prescriptions, but as I have already written to you, you will strengthen your trust in the One "Who heals all flesh and performs wonders." In this way, you will easily fulfill the precept: "Serve Hashem with joy."

You tell me that you are confused and you share with me all your reflections on this subject. I have already written to several Chassidim* that this is merely an intervention of the evil inclination. You know the interpretation our Sages give of the verse: "You shall have no foreign god." They explain, in tractate Shabbos* 105b, that this expression refers to "the cunning one" (the evil inclination), to which therefore applies the continuation of this verse: "You shall regard it as abject and repulsive." It is surely unnecessary to say more, and it is a shame to waste time on this.

You tell me of your birthday. May Hashem grant that you have a year of success in the material domain, in the spiritual domain, and in the material and spiritual domains together.

I send you my blessing on the occasion of the festival of liberation (19 Kislev) and I greet your neighbors where you currently are (perhaps a convalescent facility). No doubt you will convey to them my blessing — a blessing of good physical and moral health.

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מאדר"ח כסלו, הוא חדש הגאולה, גאולה בגשם וגאולה ברוח, אשר כבר יצא ממקומו שעד עתה, ובמילא גם מצב בריאותו הולך וטוב, ודלא כמה שכותב בהתחלת מכתבו. ואף שגם להבא צריך לשאול חוות דעת הרופא ולמלאות הוראתו בפועל, אבל כמו שכתבתי לו מאז להיות חזק בבטחונו בהרופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות ובמילא יקיל קיום הציווי עבדו את ה' בשמחה.

ובמ"ש שהוא מדוכא ועושה חשבונות על זה וכו'. כבר כתבתי לכמה מאנ"ש שאין זה אלא מתחבולות היצה"ר וכבר ידוע דרז"ל עה"פ לא יהי' בך אל זר, דקאי על הקלוגינקער (שבת קח:), ובמילא קאי ע"ז הציווי שקץ תשקצנו ותעב תתעבנו, והאריכות בזה אך למותר, וחבל על הזמן.

ולהודעתו מיום ההולדת שלו, הנה יה"ר שתהי' שנת הצלחה אצלו הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות גם יחד.

בברכת חג הגאולה ובפ"ש כל שכניו במקומו עתה, ובטח ימסור גם להם ברכתי, ברכת בריאות בגשמיות ובריאות ברוחניות.
