I am responding to your letter of 18/11 and, since my secretariat does not compose in French, I am writing to you in Yiddish. You will surely find someone to translate it for you. Obviously, you may continue to write to me in French, for I read this language and I open my mail personally.

First of all, I would like to congratulate you on having such a fine son. I do not know him personally, but his letters enable me to assess his quality. I hope that he will have many opportunities to use his abilities — for himself and for all those around him — in the best and broadest manner.

Second point, which is essential: I seize this opportunity to wish you mazal tov*, as well as your husband, on the occasion of the marriage of your son and his fiancée, which was celebrated at a good and fruitful time. Both of them will build their home in happiness, material and spiritual.

P.S.: You mention the material situation of your son. He refuses to accept the stipend from the yeshivah*, which would have the effect of diminishing those paid to the other members. You fear that this places him in a difficult situation and you think it preferable to convince him to accept it.
