Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 12 Kislev and to the one that preceded it.

You mention frozen meat (whether freezing halts the process of kashering meat, thereby permitting its extension beyond three days after slaughter). I have never wished to take a position in such discussions, in any manner whatsoever, for the permissions given in this matter are not unanimous (see Yagdil Torah, Vol. 19, paragraph 76). Some grant them only when there is no alternative and only in cases of famine. Others set certain conditions that are not always fulfilled in practice. I myself do not know the conditions on the ground in the Holy Land at present, and I do not have the ability to determine them with certainty. Consequently, I will not intervene in this domain.

You no doubt know that there was a meeting (see Igros Kodesh, Letter #4093) in Milan, of representatives from various countries. A delegation from the Holy Land also participated. It would be good to know, in the most detailed manner possible, what was said at this meeting. The members of this delegation surely met with communal leaders and even, it seems, the brothers...

I enclose what was published for 19 Kislev. You will surely make its content accessible to the broadest public. The merit of the community depends on you.

במענה על מכתבו מי"ב כסלו והקודם לו... במ"ש אודות בשר הקפוא, הנה מעולם איני רוצה להשתתף בענין זה באיזה אופן. כיון שההיתרים בזה הם לא לדברי הכל, חלק מהמתירים - הם רק בדיעבד ובעת רעבון, חלק מהמתירים הוא בתנאים מסויימים שלא תמיד מקיימים אותם. וכיון שאיני יודע התנאים על אתר באה"ק ת"ו, עתה ואין בידי לבררם אל נכון, לכן איני יכול להתערב בכל זה.

בודאי ידוע לו שהיתה אסיפה [במיל]אן מב"כ עיירות דמדינות שונות, והשתתפו בה ג"כ מאה"ק ת"ו, וכדאי הי' להוודע בפרטיות האפשרית מהנדבר באסיפה זו, ובודאי נפגשו הנ"ל עם חברי הקהלה [...], וכמדומה נפגשו ג"כ עם מי מהאחים [...] שי'.

מוסג"פ מה שהו"ל לי"ט כסלו, ובטח יזכה בתוכנו את הרבים, וזכות הרבים תלוי בו.
