Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 22 Kislev*, in which you tell me that you have settled, together with your wife, in a retirement home.

It is surely unnecessary to remind you of one of the principles of our faith, which is explained in Chassidus* — the fact that every event is an effect of Divine Providence*. In every domain, it is possible to serve the Creator of the world. It is clear that the same applies to your settling in this place.

You must therefore see the truth as it is. Divine Providence* has led you to this retirement home so that you may bring there "the candle (which) is a mitzvah* and the Torah* (which) is a light," as well as the luminary of the Torah*, meaning the practices, customs, and also the teachings of Chassidus*. By meditating on this in the proper manner, you will surely find the means to accomplish it, in a pleasant and peaceful way.

You know, of course, that the Holy One, blessed be He, acts "measure for measure," but in a greatly increased fashion. By strengthening the spiritual health of your neighbors in this new place, you will therefore receive from Hashem* good health for yourselves. In this way, you will be able, from time to time, to intensify your efforts.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ב כסלו, בו כותב אשר נסתדר ביחד עם זוגתו שיחיו במושב זקנים ב...

ובודאי למותר לעוררו על אחד מיסודי אמונתנו, ומבואר בתורת החסידות שכל ענין ומאורע הוא בהשגחה פרטית, ובכל ענין וענין יש לעבוד את בורא העולם, ומובן ופשוט שגם הסתדרות זו שלהם בכלל האמור, היינו שצריך להביט על עצמו מתאים להאמת, שההשגחה הביאתו למושב זקנים זה בכדי שיוסיף שם בנר מצוה תורה אור ומאור שבתורה זוהי הדרכות והנהגות (וגם מתורת) החסידות, ובהתבוננות המתאימה בודאי ימצא כמה דרכי נועם ודרכי שלום להביא כל זה בפועל.

וכבר ידוע שמדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה, אלא שכ"פ ככה, שעל ידי שירבה בבריאות הרוחניות של שכניו במקומו החדש, ירבה השי"ת בבריאותם הם, הן ברוחניות והן בגשמיות, ושיוכל להוסיף בעבודתו האמורה מזמן לזמן.
