To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and bears a sacred mission, Rav Shlomo Chaim,

Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter of 22 Kislev*, following a particularly long silence. You describe the program that was adopted (presumably at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*, of which Rav Kasselman is the director) on the luminous day of 19 Kislev*, the festival during which He redeemed our soul in peace, when the light and vitality of our souls were granted to us, as well as the preceding and following days.

I am surprised that you say nothing about 10 Kislev* (the date of the liberation of the Mitteler Rebbe*), a date on which you surely have the positive custom of organizing a Chassidishe farbrengen*, motivating others and also motivating yourself regarding Chassidus*, its customs and practices. This is no doubt what you also did on Chanukah*, particularly for the fifth candle (the date of the second liberation of the Alter Rebbe* from the Czarist prisons, the first being on 19 Kislev*).

I do not know in what manner you have practiced until now, but according to what is explained, and as can be verified concretely, it is worthwhile to plow and sow only when one reaps the fruits. In the terminology of Chassidus*, this means that it is necessary to internalize and establish a synthesis. One should therefore find the means to maintain the connection with the young men from other yeshivos* who participated in the farbrengen* of 19 Kislev* and remind them of the inspiration they experienced at that time. Above all, a concrete result must follow, at their level.

Among these students, there are presumably some with whom you are already in contact. You can therefore, through them, reach the others. And nothing can withstand the will.

No doubt, this year as well, you distributed in my name the Chanukah* gelt*. I asked Rav A. Pariz to organize its distribution. Obviously, this is reserved, as in previous years, for students who already study Chassidus*.

לאחרי שתיקתו הכי ארוכה, נתקבל מכתבו מכ"ב כסלו, בו כותב ע"ד הסדרים ביום הבהיר י"ט כסלו, החג אשר פדה בשלום נפשנו ואור וחיות נפשנו ניתן לנו, והימים שלפניהם ושלאחריהם. ולפלא שאינו מזכיר בהנוגע ליו"ד כסלו, שבטח גם אז מחזיק הטוב להתועד לעורר ולהתעורר לתורת החסידות הדרכותי' ומנהגי'. ובטח עשו כזה בימי החנוכה וביחוד בנר החמישי.

איני יודע מנהגם עד עתה, אבל ע"פ המבואר ונראה במוחש, שהתועלת בחרישה וזריעה היא כשגדלים פירות, ובלשון החסידות, שצריך להמשיך בפנימיות דוקא, ושיבוא לבכן, צריך הי' לחפש דרכים ואופנים להמשיך הקישור עם האברכים דשאר הישיבות שהשתתפו בהתועדות די"ט כסלו, ולחדש (אאפרישען) אצלם התעוררות של ההתועדות, והעיקר להשתדל שיבוא בענין של בכן המתאים לפניהם, וכיון שבין תלמידים אלו ישנם בודאי אחדים עכ"פ שבלא"ה עומדים עמהם בקישור, הרי על ידם יש להוודע אודות השאר, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.

בודאי גם בשנה זו חלקו דמי חנוכה משמי, וכמו שבקשתי את הרה"ח הר"א שי' פאריז שיסדר זה, והוא כמו בשנים שעברו, לאלו שלומדים כבר חסידות כו'...
