Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 16 Kislev*, in which you describe your wanderings from one yeshivah* to another, due to your refusal to submit. You ask me what should be done.

The solution is found in the Tur Shulchan Aruch*, Orach Chaim*, at the beginning of the first chapter, and in several passages of the Tanya*, which you should consult. In a few words: a yeshivah* student must follow the instructions of his director and carry them out in their entirety.

You tell me that the evil inclination* prevents you from doing so. This argument is not acceptable. For every person possesses a "second soul," a divine soul*, through which it is possible to overcome this evil inclination*, if one truly desires to do so.

May Hashem* grant that you regret the poor conduct you have had until now, and that you do so as quickly as possible.

במענה על מכתבו מט"ז כסלו, בו כותב אודות נדודיו מישיבה לישיבה מפני שרירות לבו וכו', ושואל עצה לזה.

והעצה נמצאת בטור שולחן ערוך אורח חיים ריש סימן א' יעויין שם ובכמה מקומות בתניא, ובמלות קצרות הוא, אשר תלמיד ישיבה צריך לשמוע להוראת ראש הישיבה ולמלאותם במילואם , והטענה אשר יצר הרע אינו מניח, אינה טענה, כי לכל איש יש נפש השנית היא נפש האלקית שעל ידה יכולים לנצח היצר הרע, אם רק ירצה באמת, ויזכהו השי"ת לחזור בתשובה על הנהגתו הבלתי מתאימה שעד עתה ולעשות זה בהקדם.
