Greetings and blessings,

I have received your letter of 25 Cheshvan*, with its enclosure. You tell me that it is important to have an additional instructor and you are considering entrusting this role to one of the best students (of the school). This proposal does not suit me, for if this student continues his studies, he will learn his trade better and, moreover, he will devote more time to sacred studies. This will not be the case if he is given an instructor's role. His submissiveness will be diminished, and "one who expels what he carries within cannot simultaneously internalize" (based on the principle of kashering* vessels, applied here in its moral dimension).

You discuss the beginning of the construction and its modalities.

This beginning must be done in such a way that the buildings are finally brought to completion in the best manner. Among all the suitable proposals, one will obviously choose the one that requires, for the time being, the smallest initial investment and presents the most advantageous conditions.

One must also take into account that at least one of the buildings should have a fine appearance. According to what several visitors have reported to me, the current buildings of the vocational school give an impression of poverty.

I await your good tidings.

I have just received your letter of 27 Kislev* and I am responding to it. For the time being, the direction of the agricultural school is entrusted to the vocational school.

I am surprised that you are taking so long to receive the students, when promptness is necessary for various reasons and also to prevent certain concerns.

The study program of the agricultural school (see, on this subject, letter no. 4096) will obviously depend on the students' level. Nevertheless, one must take into account what I wrote (see letter no. 2810) regarding the vocational school — namely, that the time devoted to sacred studies must exceed that of secular studies, all the more so since the students are very young.

Moreover, the day will begin with sacred studies, so that the agricultural school will not attract those who wish to flee the yeshivah*.

Naturally, the installation of the agricultural school must allow, in a short time, for its expansion, in quantity and in quality.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבם מכ"ה חשון עם המוסגר בו... במ"ש אודות נחיצות עוד מדריך, ויש קס"ד לקחת מבחורי התלמידים למשרה זו. לדעתי אין נראה הדבר, כיון שבודאי אם ימשיכו בתור תלמידים ישתלמו יותר בלימוד המקצוע אפילו ואצ"ל שילמדו יותר לימודי קדש, משא"כ כשעושים אותם למדריכים הרי עוד תתמעט יותר מדת הקבלת עול שעדיין נשארה אצלם ואיידי דטריד למיפלט לא בלע.

הנה יש להתחיל באופן כזה שסו"ס, יהיו הבנינים משוכללים, ומההצעות המתאימות לזה מובן שצריך לבחור בזו הדורשת לע"ע השקעה לא גדולה ותנאים יותר נוחים, ועוד יש להביא בחשבון, אשר סו"ס עכ"פ צריך להיות בנין אחד מבי"ס למלאכה מפואר, כפי שסיפרו לי איזה מהמבקרים, הנה הבנינים דבי"ס, למלאכה עתה, עושים רושם של ארימקייט...

עתה נתקבל מכתבם מכ"ז כסלו. ובמענה עליו: לע"ע הנהלת בי"ס החקלאי שייכת להנהלת ביסל"מ.

לפלא שממשיכים כ"כ בקבלת התלמידים בפועל בה בשעה שהזריזות נחוצה ביותר מכמה טעמים וחששות.

תכנית הלימודים בבי"ס החקלאי מובן שתלוי' ברמת ידיעות התלמידים, אבל מובן שצריך באווארענען ע"ד מה שכתבתי בהנוגע לביסל"מ ששעות לימודי קדש צ"ל יותר משל לימודי חול (בפרט שהת' צעירים יתר). התחלת היום דוקא בלימודי קדש, שלא ישמש בי"ס החקלאי פיתוי והסתה לבריחה מן הישיבה, וכו'.

דער שטעל של בי"ס החקלאי פשוט שצ"ל באופן שבמשך זמן לא ארוך יוכלו להרחיבו הן בכמות והן באיכות.
