Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, written at the conclusion of Shabbos* 11 Kislev*, and I am very surprised at the interval between your letters, given that you bear a sacred mission. You therefore understand the desire one may have to receive detailed news from you. I trust that in the future you will rectify all of this.

You discuss the divergent opinions of the doctors. They all agree, however, that there is no need for surgery. You should therefore rejoice at this. You conclude by reporting to me what these doctors foresee in two or three years. But Hashem* "heals all flesh and does wonders." The doctor's expertise consists of taking immediate measures, not predicting the future.

You mention, at the end of your letter, a point that is essential. Chapter 7 of Igeres HaKodesh* explains that everything pertaining to a person depends on the mitzvah* that he is obligated to observe most scrupulously. In your case, this is your work with your students. Your spiritual concerns are connected to this, as is what was just discussed.

You tell me that you derive no satisfaction from your students, since they are never the same and you therefore question the usefulness of what you do. However:

A) Even if one teaches for only a few months, one can transmit a message that will be received, engraved in the mind, and lead to action.

B) The essential point: you must ask yourself how to interest the students, attract them to study, and above all to what concerns Chabad* — to the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch* schools. In this way, they will perceive the beneficent light.

Everything depends on you and on the other Chassidim* who are on site. I await good tidings about this.

במענה על מכתבו ממוצש"ק י"א כסלו, ולפלא ותמי' גדולה על הפסק הכי גדול בין מכתב אחד לחבירו, בה בשעה שעבודת הקדש על שכמו ובמילא מובן עד כמה משתוקקים לקבל ידיעות מפורטות אודות הנעשה בזה, ותקותי שעכ"פ מכאן ולהבא יתקן הנ"ל.

במ"ש אודות החילוק בחוות דעת הרופאים, הרי: א) כיון שהצד השוה בהם שעתה אין מקום לנתוח, הרי יגל לבם על זה, כי מה שמסיימים הרופאים מה שיהי' לאחר שנתים ושלש, הרי השי"ת הרופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות וסמכות הרופא הוא על אתר בהנהגה לפועל ולא להגיד עתידות...

ובמה דמסיים, אשר באמת הוא העיקר, וכמבואר באגה"ק סי' ז' אשר כל עניני האדם תלוי בהמצוה בה צריך להיות זהיר טפי, ובדידי' הוא התעסקותו עם התלמידים, שבזה תלוים לא רק עניניו הרוחנים אלא גם ענינים הנ"ל,

וכותב שאין לו סיפוק מהתלמידים כי מתחלפים הם וכו' ומה התועלת בזה, הנה: א) אפילו אם לומדים רק כמה חדשים, בודאי לומדים אתם באופן שיקבלו הלימוד ויוחקק בזכרונם, ובודאי יביא לפעולות. ב) והוא העיקר, שעליהם להתבונן איך לעניין (פאראינטערעסירען) יותר את התלמידים ולהמשיכם להלימודים ובעיקר לעניני חב"ד או עכ"פ למוסדות אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש במילא יראו את האור כי טוב, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא בו ובשאר אנ"ש הנמצאים על אתר, ואחכה לבשו"ט גם בזה.
