To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Shmuel Yosef,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 13 Kislev* and I begin with a blessing of Mazel Tov*, Mazel Tov*, on the occasion of the marriage of your nephew, the young man, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, Rav Yehoshua Zelig HaKohen. He and his wife will build a Jewish home, an everlasting edifice based on the Torah* and mitzvos* as they are illuminated by the luminary of the Torah*, which is the teaching of Chassidus*.

You reside near the building in which you were until now. You should therefore make a point of visiting there often, but not on a regular schedule. You know that "one who comes and goes constantly" is feared throughout the day (based on the principle established in the laws of kashrus*, applied here in its moral dimension). You must understand what I mean. In addition, you should also choose a fixed time for these visits — for example, during the festivals. For nothing can withstand the will.

You ask me about an electric light. Many of those who fear the Word of Hashem* have the custom, in such cases, of using a Shabbos* timer. Some adopt an even more stringent position and question whether one may use it. Consequently, I will refrain from giving my official opinion on this question.

For your part, however, you should use one, without publicizing it too widely. It would therefore be advisable to obtain such a timer. This should be possible in Tel Aviv*, particularly among the observant Jews of German origin, who have been using them for several generations already.

You will purchase this timer at my expense. I will bear the entire cost — that is, the purchase and the installation in the house where you are located. After informing me and having accomplished all of this, I am sure that you will obtain the approval for this initiative. Afterward, it will be easier to do the same in the other houses of the rectangle (i.e., the surrounding area). You must understand what I mean.

You surely did everything in your power, in every place where you exercise your influence, for the festival of 19 Kislev*, during which He redeemed our soul in peace, when the light and vitality of our soul were granted to us. Please give me good tidings about this. I thank you.

הגיעה אלי בקשת ברכה עבורו למנוחת הנפש ופרנסה במנוחה.
בעת רצון יזכירוהו על הציון הק׳ של כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר
זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ זי״ע נשיא ישראל ,לאמור לעיל.
וכיון שכדי לקבל את הברכות מהשם יתברך יש לעשות כלים
טובים כדי לקבל את הברכות ,מהנכון לבדוק תיכף את התפילין שלו,
כדי שיהיו כשרות כדין ,ובכל יום חול לפני הנחת התפילין להטיל שניים־
שלושה סנט בקופת צדקה ,ולאחר חליצת התפילין לומר לכל הפחות
פרק תהלים אחד ,וכשמניחים תפילין ,הצריכות להיות על הראש ועל
היד כנגד הלב ,יש לזה השפעה טובה על השכל ועל הרגש של המבצע
והם מביאים רגיעה ברגשות ותוספת בהירות בשכל ובמחשבות ,ובדרך
ממילא ,ישתפר המצב וילך מטוב ליותר טוב.
מבוסס על יסוד פתגם הבעל שם טוב ששמענו פעמים רבות מכ״ק
מו״ח אדמו״ר זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ זי״ע ,שמכל דבר אפשר ללמוד מוסר
איך להתנהג בחיים ,ובפרט מענין שנפגשים בו יום יום.
גם מעיסוקו . . .הרי הוא בשעונים ,יש ללמוד ,השימוש והניצול של
שעונים הוא שבאמצעותם אדם יכול לסדר את מהלך חייו שיהי׳ בסדר
ותכנית כפי שהוא קבע מראש ,שכן כך יגיע אל המטרה והתכלית
שאליהם הוא שואף.
מנוע השעון מופעל ע״י כך שגלגל אחד נוגע ומניע את הגלגל השני,
וכך זה הולך מאחד לשני עד שמגיע לגלגל שעליו מורכבים המחוגים,
המציינים את הדקות והם מניעים גלגל אחר המורה את השעות ,שעל
פיהם האדם עושה את מעשיו כפי שתכנן מראש ,שבעצם אין לקפיץ
המניע את הגלגל הראשון כל דמיון ושייכות והתייחסות מצד עצמו עם
האדם ועבודתו ,שהוא צריך ]לעשות[ ועושה בשעה המתאימה על פי
מחוגי השעון ,אין זה אלא שבאמצעות השעון ,שע״י הסדקים והחריטות
שישנם בגלגלים מניעים הם זה את זה ,ומגיעים בסופו של דבר להנעת
המחוגים ,מושפעות עבודת האדם ותכניותיו.
והאמור לעיל מסיר את השאלה והקושיא :איזה קשר יש להנחת
תפילין ,שהן רק פיסות קלף שעליהן כתובות אותיות מסויימות ומונחות
בקופסאות המעוצבות בצורה מסויימת ,לרגש ושכל האדם ,כאשר
מניחים אותם ,ובכל זאת יודעים ורואים שזה משפיע על האדם ועל
מעשיו ,והנמשל מובן.
