To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yehudah Zerachyah Mordechai Leib Chaim,

Greetings and blessings,

I am surprised that you do not specify whether you participated in the Chassidishe farbrengen* on the luminous day of 19 Kislev* (the festival of the liberation of the Alter Rebbe* from the Czarist prisons and the Rosh Hashanah* of Chassidus*), during which "He redeemed our soul in peace," when "the light and vitality of our souls were granted to us."

Indeed, it was not solely the Alter Rebbe* who was then liberated. It was not only his soul that was redeemed in peace, but the teaching of Chassidus* in its entirety, its customs and practices. This date therefore exerts its effect on every member of the people of Yisrael* and infuses in them increased fervor.

A well-known analogy is given on this subject: by bringing light, strength, and vitality to one of the limbs of the body, one vivifies all the others as well. Now, all Jews form a single organism, from the heads of the tribes to the water-drawers — this is self-evident (see letter no. 3815).

I have just received your letter of Wednesday of Parshas Vaeira*. I thank you for the good tidings it contains.

...לפלא שאינו מזכיר דבר אם השתתף בהתועדות יום הבהיר י"ט כסלו, החג אשר פדה בשלום נפשנו ואור וחיות נפשנו ניתן לנו, כי לא רק רבנו הזקן יצא לגאולה ופדה בשלום נפשו, אלא תורת החסידות הדרכותי' ומנהגי' ובמילא פעולתה בכל אישי קומת עם ישראל התחילה בתוספת אומץ, וכבר ידוע הדוגמא אשר הוספת אור כח וחיות באחד מאברי הקומה מוסיפה ג"כ חיות בכל שאר האברים, והרי כל בני ישראל יחד מראשיכם שבטיכם עד שואב מימיך קומה אחת הם, וק"ל.
