Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from the eve of Shabbos* Zos Chanukah* and to your request for a blessing. You seek my counsel and guidance for your service of Hashem.

The answer to your question is found in many books, particularly those of Chassidus*, words of the living Elokim. The details of application depend on the conditions of the era and the individuals, but the general principles are as follows: One must study each day both the revealed dimension of the Torah* and Chassidus* — in depth and also for the purpose of acquiring broad knowledge (i.e., studying numerous texts, but in a less in-depth manner; see letter no. 3917). One must maintain the three studies that concern each individual, instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. These pertain to Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*, and are well known. One must observe the ritual immersion according to Ezra* (after each conjugal relation), and to the extent possible, give — without making a vow — each weekday morning before prayer, a few coins to tzedakah*.

In all matters, the help of Hashem is necessary, and our Sages emphasize that "if He did not come to his aid, he could not overcome it (the evil inclination)." To obtain this help, one must take action on behalf of others, bringing them ever closer to Torah* and mitzvos*. This is how one draws oneself closer to the service of Hashem. For it is said: "One who comes to purify (others, and not merely himself) — he is assisted."

You surely participate in the Chassidic farbrengens*, in particular the one held on the luminous date of the 19th of Kislev*, the festival during which "He redeemed our soul in peace," when "the light and vitality of our souls were granted to us."

במענה על מכתבו מעש"ק זאת חנוכה (והפ"נ), בו שואל עצה והדרכה בעבודה.

וכבר מלתו אמורה בכמה ספרים וביחוד בספרי חסידות תורת דא"ח, ונקודות כלליות בזה (כיון שהפרטים ופרטי פרטים תלוים בתנאי הזמן והאישים), לימוד בכל יום הן בנגלה והן בחסידות, הן לעיונא והן למיגרס, שמירת שלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, זהירות בטבילת עזרא, ונתינה - בלי נדר, אבל מה טוב בכל יום חול בבקר קודם התפלה - איזה פרוטות לצדקה.

וכיון שלכל דבר נזקקים לסייעתא דשמיא וכדרשת רז"ל אלמלא עוזרו אין יכול לו, צריכים להשתדל עם זולת לקרבו עוד יותר לתורתנו ומצותי', שעי"ז מקרבים את המשתדל בזה ביותר וביותר לעבודת השם, וכידוע הדיוק הבא לטהר מסייעין אותו.

בודאי משתתף בהתועדות אנ"ש ובפרט ביום הבהיר י"ט כסלו, החג אשר פדה בשלום נפשנו ואור וחיות נפשנו ניתן לנו.
