Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of the 17th (the Rebbe writes "Tov" — "good" — a word whose numerical value is seventeen) of Teves*, which I received with some delay. I am surprised and astonished that the approach is still maintained whereby every detail (concerning the network of Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak* Lubavitch* schools in the Holy Land), whether accessory or important, must be decided on the other side of the ocean (by the Rebbe himself). It is inevitable that such an approach will impede the advancement of what must be accomplished.

Moreover, for a question from there to be posed here and for the answer from here to reach there, two weeks are necessary. A way must therefore be found to rectify all of this, for after all, all the members of the network (of Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak* Lubavitch* schools) are Chassidim*, disciples of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. Furthermore, the schools of the network bear his name and must therefore be directed in his spirit — this is self-evident.

Concerning your question, the following points are perfectly clear:

A) One must take advantage of the day of the Hilloula* (of the Frierdiker Rebbe*) of the 10th of Shevat* to forge a close bond between all the schools of the network and their administration. And one should also cultivate in the students an awareness of all this. The easiest means of achieving this is to organize a gathering, which you will initiate.

B) Following the majority opinion, you have decided to organize this gathering at Kfar Chabad*. This will have the additional advantage of enabling the students to also become acquainted with other Chabad* schools.

C) Even though the organization of the gathering has been entrusted to Rav Z. A. (Rav Zalman Abelski; see letters no. 4078 and 4145), those who can provide assistance are in no way exempt from doing so. How much more is this the case for the directors of the schools in the network, and especially for the Chassidim* residing at the Kfar* (Chabad*, where this gathering is to take place). Obviously, you may convey this request to the municipal commission of the Kfar* or to anyone who can provide assistance in this matter.

I hope that all will act to the extent of their means, especially since there is every reason to think that good will result from this for the Kfar* as well.

D) I have already proposed elsewhere that the teachers, in particular, should endeavor to increase the number of students. If there are no other means of achieving this, they should go visit the parents in their homes, in Zarnoga* (where an important school of the network was located), and explain to them the value of the schools in the network.

It is true that we are in the middle of the school year, but newcomers are settling in that area. Furthermore, it seems to me that one can change schools in Nissan*. Moreover, there are surely students who are not yet enrolled in any particular school. Such an effort would therefore serve to increase the number of students.

במענה על מכתבו מטו"ב טבת - שנתקבל באיחור זמן קצת - ולפלא ולתמי'...

שמחזיקים בהנהגה שעל כל דבר קטן או גדול צריכה להיות דוקא גזירה מעבר לים, והרי אי אפשר שהנהגה זו לא תפריע להתפתחות הענינים, ובפרט שהשאלה ותשובה מהתם להכא ומהכא להם לוקחת כשבועיים, וצריך הי' למצוא עצה לתקן הנ"ל, כי הרי סו"ס כל חברי הרשת הם מאנ"ש וחסידי כ"ק מו"ח אדמור זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אשר על שמו נקראים מוסדות הרשת, ומתאים לכוונתו צריכים הם להתנהל כו' וכו' וק"ל.

בהנוגע לשאלתו, מובן א) שיש לנצל יום ההילולא דיו"ד שבט לקישור הדוק יותר של בתי ספר הרשת זל"ז ולההנהלה ולהחדיר זה גם בהתלמידים-ות, שהדרך יותר קרובה בזה היא לעשות כינוס כהחלטתם.

ב) כן מה שברוב דיעות החליטו לעשות זה בכפר חב"ד, יש בזה מעלה נוספת שיש להראות להתלמידים-ות עוד מוסדות חב"ד וכו'.

ג) בודאי אף שהטילו את ארגון הכנוס על הרז"א שי', פשוט שאין זה פוטר את כל מי שיש בידו לסייע להנ"ל ובפרט מנהלי בתי ספר הרשת (ועאכו"כ אנ"ש דהכפר, ומובן שברשותו למסור בקשתי זו לועד הכפר או למי ששייכים לסיוע בענינים אלו, ותקותי שיעשו בזה ככל יכולתם, ובפרט שיש מקום קרוב לומר שתצמיח מזה תועלת גם בשביל עניני הכפר)...

ד) כבר מצאתי במקום אחד שהמורים-ות ביחוד צריכים להשתדל להגדיל מספר התלמידים-ות, ואם אי אפשר אחרת כדאי שיתעוררו לבקר בבתי ההורים בזרנוגה ולבארם מעלת ביה"ס דהרשת וכו'. ואף שהוא באמצע הזמן הנה כיון שיש מתיישבים מחדש במקום זה. כן כמדומה לי בניסן אפשר להחליף. כן בטח נמצאים ילדים-ות שעדיין לא רשומים בבי"ס מיוחד, יש מקום לומר שיתוסף עי"ז במספר התלמידים-ות.
