To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*,
Rav Yehudah Aryeh (Rav Y. A. Falik of Jerusalem),
I greet you and bless you,
I am responding to your letter of this Tuesday, in which you share your difficulty understanding that creation is effected every day, at every moment, as it is said: "He renews, in His goodness, every day and constantly, the original creation." If so, what is the place of Shabbos*, regarding which it is said: "And on the seventh day He rested" from the creation of the first six days?
The difference is very simple. It is said: "The heavens and the earth were completed, with all their hosts" (all that they contain), and also: "There is nothing new under the sun" — at the conclusion of the six days of creation. Then, subsequently, creation is in reality only a renewal of what existed before, whereas during the six days, everything was truly new, not having existed before, having been created from nothing (the Rebbe notes: "Please consult the Chassidic* discourse entitled 'I will be for Him,' delivered in 5700, from Chapter 2. On this subject, one can also make a distinction between Rosh Hashanah*, Shabbos*, and weekdays, as various texts explain, in particular the Sefer HaMitzvos of the Tzemach Tzedek*, at the end of the mitzvah* of not kindling fire on Shabbos*").
You ask me how to organize your study of Chassidus*. Obviously, everything depends on your knowledge and aptitudes. Please consult the elder Chassidim* who are on the spot. Explain your situation to them, and they will guide you.
You surely know the three studies that concern everyone, instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. These deal with the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*, and are well known. You will therefore observe them, at least from now on.
With my blessing,
For the Rebbe Shlita*,
the secretary,
