I am responding to your letter of 28 Shevat, in which you consider taking a new medication, maticortene. Indeed, doubts still exist regarding its possible use.

In my opinion, one should ask the doctor about a known medication, hydrocortisone (see letter no. 3627), from the cortisone family, which is more effective. The doubts regarding its use are therefore fewer. In certain cases, it has been used here for several months, but I do not know whether it can also be part of the treatment for your wife.

You mention the recitation of Chassidic* texts and say that preparation and effort are necessary for this, and that your occupations do not permit it. It is surely unnecessary to remind you of the teaching of our Sages that accepting the yoke of the Torah* eases the yoke of worldly concerns and liberates from them.

Indeed, one can observe concretely, even in another type of reflection, that meditation leads a person to accept worries and troubles in a more calculated manner, to react without exaggerating them or giving them too much space. How much more so is this the case for the Torah*, which possesses, in addition, the virtue of bringing healing to the world.

You tell me that you do not have books, and that this also constitutes an obstacle. Please specify which ones, among those published by Kehot Editions and available from Rav Avraham Pariz (in charge of distribution in the Holy Land of books published by Kehot, see letter no. 4092), you need. Without making it a vow, they will be sent to you.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ח שבט, בו כותב אודות הקס"ד בהנוגע לתרופה החדשה, מטיקורטן - ואשר ישנם ספיקות עדיין אם להשתמש בה.

לדעתי יש לשאול דעת הרופא בהנוגע להתרופות הידועות הידרא-קארטיזאן, שהם ממשפחת קארטיזאן, אלא שטובים יותר, ולכן הספיקות בהנוגע להשימוש בהן קלות יותר, ובמקרים ידועים משתמשים בזה כאן זה כמה חדשים, אף שאינני יודע אם זה נוגע לטפול זוגתו תחי'.

במ"ש אודות חזרת דא"ח שצריך לזה הכנה ויגיעה והטרדות שלו מפריעים בזה, בודאי למותר לעוררו על מרז"ל שקבלת עול תורה מקילה ומעבירה ענינים של עול דרך ארץ, ורואים זה גם במוחש אפילו להבדיל בעניני שכל אחר שהעמקה בענין שכלי מכשירה את האדם לקבל הדאגות והטרדות באופן מחושב יותר ולהגיב עליהם מבלי להגזים אותם ומבלי להגדילם, ועאכו"כ בתורה שהיא מביאה רפואה לעולם גם בדרך סגולי.

במ"ש שאין לו ספרים וגם זה מונע בהנ"ל, יודיעני איזה ספרים מספרי הוצאת קה"ת הנמצאים אצל הרה"ח מו"ה אברהם שי' פאריז נדרשים לו, ובלי נדר ימציאו אותם לידו...
