Last day of Chanukah

To the respectable Chassid*, the Rav I. Sheinfeld,

Rocksbury, Massachusetts,

I greet you and bless you,

As you asked us when you were here, we have sent to your daughter the youth publications of the Merkaz Leinyonei Chinuch*. With her great eagerness and the influence she exerts, she will surely know how to deliver these periodicals to the children and, in this way, will acquire great merit, so that the good of all will depend on her.

We have good hope that in the future, you will continue, to the extent of your means, to disseminate among the young people under your influence the publications of the Merkaz Leinyonei Chinuch. These have the purpose of bringing them closer to the Torah, the Mitzvot* and the traditions of our ancestors. For, if one does not educate the young, what will they become once they are adults? Will not the children and students of today be the sages of tomorrow? On this action, therefore, depends the Divine Presence* in the people of Israel, according to the expression of the Yerushalmi*.

We live in a period of harsh persecutions [1], comparable to those of Haman*. In such a case, our Sages advise teaching Torah to the children of the ignorant and enabling the wicked to attain Teshuvah. It is thus that one annuls the decrees.

Each person must consider that the world is half meritorious and half guilty, that he can, through his good actions, tip the balance to the side of good and bring about salvation and redemption.

With my blessing of immediate Teshuvah, immediate redemption,

בהתאם להוראת כ' כשהי' פה, שלחנו לבתו הכבודה תי' עניני דפוס היו"ל בעד הנוער ע"י המרכז לעניני חנוך, ובטח בגודל מרצה והשפעתה תשתדל בתו הכבודה שתי' אשר הירחונים וכו' יגיעו לידי הנערים והנערות ובזה תהי' ממזכי הרבים, אשר זכות הרבים יהי' תלוי בה.

תקותנו חזקה אשר גם בעתיד ישתדל כבו' כפי יכלתו להמציא לחוגי הנוער אשר השפעתו מגעת שם, את החומר היוצא לאור ע"י המרכז לעניני חנוך אשר כל מאויו לקרב את בני ובנות ישראל לתומ"צ ומסורת אבות. ואם אין גדיים אין תישים, והקטנים והתלמידים [ש]ל היום הם הם החכמים דיום מחר, ובזה תלוי' השראת השכינה על ישראל, וכלשון הירושלמי (סנה' פ"י ה"ב).

בימים האלו, ימי גזרות קשות כהמן וכמרז"ל (סנה' צז, ב), הנה העצה היעוצה ע"י חכמינו ז"ל (ב"מ פה, א) היא ללמד את בני עמי הארץ תורה ולהחזיר רשע בתשובה וכפי התרגום ופירש"י על הפסוק בירמי' שם, שאז מבטלים הגזרה. וכל אחד צריך לראות את העולם חציו זכאי וחציו חייב, והוא ע"י מעשיו הטובים מכריע העולם לכף זכות וגורם תשועה והצלה.
