Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your undated letter. You tell me that a match has been proposed to you. You met this young woman and you have both reached an agreement. Her parents, however, are not satisfied. The reason is the fact that one is Ashkenazi and the other Sefardi.

If this is the only difficulty, it must certainly be set aside. In recent years in particular, hundreds and thousands of unions between Ashkenazim and Sefardim have taken place. These have been successful. You must find friends who will speak to the young woman's parents, verify all the details, and exercise a positive influence on them, in the direction of good and truth.

May Hashem guide you in the direction He desires, both materially and spiritually.

I am surprised that you say nothing about your study and how you increase it from time to time. Indeed, our Sages say that "if one does not add (see note 1)... and to whoever adds (see note 2), more is added (see note 3)." The Torah* constitutes the channel and the vessels for drawing and integrating the blessings of Hashem in everything one needs, both materially and spiritually.

You surely know the three studies applicable to everyone, which were instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. These concern the Chumash*, the Tehillim*, and the Tanya*, and are well known. No doubt you already observe them or, at least, will do so in the future.

במענה על מכתבו - בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - בו כותב שמציעים לו נכבדות וכבר התראו וישר הדבר בעיני שניהם, אבל ההורים של המדוברת אין שבעים רצון, ומבארים שהסיבה הקושי לזווג אשכנזי וספרדי.

ואם זוהי המניעה היחידה, בודאי יש להסירה כיון שבפרט בשנים האחרונות מאות ואלפים שידוכים נעשו בין האשכנזים והספרדים והזיווגים עלו יפה, ועליו למצוא ידידים אשר יתדברו עם הורי המדוברת יבררו את כל האמור וישפיעו עליהם בכיוון הרצוי והטוב באמת, והשי"ת ינחהו באופן טוב לפניו בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.

לפלא שאינו מזכיר דבר על דבר לימודו וההוספה בזה מזמן לזמן, וכנודע מאמר רז"ל מאן דלא יוסיף כו' וכל המוסיף מוסיפין לו, והרי התורה היא הצנור והכלים להמשכת וקבלת ברכות השי"ת בהמצטרך לאדם בגשמיות וברוחניות.

בודאי יודע משלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים ושומר עליהם ועכ"פ ישמור אותם מכאן ולהבא.
