Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from the eve of Shabbos*. I thank you for having made reference to the travel expenses for the stay of several weeks of our Yeshivah* students in the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, in accordance with what I told you in the letter I addressed to you (see note 2).

Nevertheless, it seems that my words were not sufficiently precise. It is clear that the lodging expenses in the Holy Land are substantially the same as the travel expenses (see note 3). Moreover, it seems to me that I myself said this in my letter. But this would only be the case if these students, traveling through the intermediary of foreign organizations, were lodged by foreigners, in which case payment would indeed be necessary. This is indeed the case for students of other yeshivos*, traveling to the Holy Land through the intermediary of the Jewish Agency department that handles this.

However, this is not the case here. If I have the travel expenses, I believe I will be able to lodge them in Kfar Chabad*, in the Chabad* yeshivos*, at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Lod. In this way, the costs will be reduced to the strict minimum. I do not have such a possibility, however, for the cost of travel.

You were told that the tickets had to be paid for by the Jewish Agency in foreign currency. This is also surprising. Furthermore, it is clear that they will not take a boat, for it continues its journey during Shabbos* (see note 4). On the other hand, they will be able to travel by an El Al airplane. Nevertheless, according to my plan, they will need, during this journey, to spend a few days at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of France (see note 5), but this will be easy to arrange, since El Al flights serve London. They will therefore make a stopover there and later board another El Al flight (see note 6). In the meantime, they will travel to France and return from there, at their own expense, of course.

If you have the possibility of putting this question back on the agenda, you will no doubt do so with the appropriate eagerness, all the more so since, as I said in my previous letter, this will result, in my view, in the greatest encouragement for the residents of the Kfar* (see note 7) and for its development.

במענה על מכתבו מעש"ק. ת"ח על מה שדבר בענין הוצאות הנסיעה דבחורי ישיבתנו לאה"ק ת"ו למשך איזה שבועות - בהתאם לתוכן מכתבי אליו בזה, וכנראה שלא ביארתי דברי כדי צרכם, כי אף שבטח הוצאות האש"ל באה"ק ת"ו הם לפ"ע שוים להוצאות הנסיעה, וכמדומה שכתבתי ג"ז במכתבי, הנה בד"א - אם יסעו הנ"ל ע"י זרים ויתארחו בבתי זרים, היינו שצריכים לשלם בעד האש"ל, שכן הוא בתלמידי ישיבות אחרות הנוסעים לאה"ק ע"י המחלקה דסוכנות שמתעסקת בזה. משא"כ בנדון דידן שאם תהי' ברשותי הוצאות הנסיעה, תקותי חזקה שאוכל לסדר עניני האש"ל בכפר חב"ד בישיבות חב"ד תו"ת לוד וכו', באופן שיהיו הוצאות מינימליות ביותר וביותר, משא"כ בהוצאות הנסיעה שאין בידי יכולת זו [במה שאמרו לו, שהכרטיסים צריכים לשלם ע"י הסוכנות - דוקא במטבע זר, גם זה תמוה, שאף שמובן שלא יסעו בספינות כו' כיון שהן נוסעות בש"ק, יכולים לסדר הנסיעה ע"י אוירון אל-על, ואף שבהתכנית שלי שיבקרו בדרך נסיעתם איזה ימים בישי' תומכי תמימים בצרפת וכיו"ב, גם זה בקל לסדר כיון שאל-על עובר דרך לונדון, ויפסיקו שם נסיעתם מאוירון אחד להשני של אל-על ובינתים יסעו מלונדון לצרפת וחזרה על הוצאות עצמם, וק"ל]. ובודאי אם תהי' הזדמנות בידו להעלות עוה"פ שאלה הנ"ל על סדר היום - יעשה כן ויתאמץ בזה, ובפרט, כמו שכתבתי במכתבי הקודם, שרואה הנני בזה עדוד הכי גדול לאנשי הכפר ולהתפתחותו...
