Greetings and blessings,
I told you that I was awaiting at least a measure of humility. Indeed, if you accustom yourself to displaying it, you will experience, at the very least, a doubt regarding the value of your analysis and even of your decisions. You will tell yourself that they are perhaps not accurate. For perhaps you have the impression that things are otherwise only because "a person is close to himself" (see note 1).
If you adopt this attitude, before taking an incisive initiative or, in any case, one with broad consequences, you will seek counsel from someone who is not directly involved (see note 2).
As is my custom, I must immediately underscore that my purpose is not to assert that in such a domain, this person is entirely wrong and that other is right. In general, such assertions are not the subject of this letter. I confine myself to observing the general conduct.
In other words, when one studies Chassidic* texts and the talks of our masters, one understands them well. Then, when it is time to act concretely, one decides, with the greatest certainty, that everything said in these books concerns others.
By way of example, I will cite a single point. If the opening lines of chapter 41 of the Tanya*, on page 56a, were engraved in your mind — and even if you knew only the last line and a half of that page: "And behold, Hashem stands before him, observes, searches his innards and his heart" — I am certain that you would not even contemplate uttering the incisive words that you said. Moreover, you would not even have used terms far less acerbic than those.
With my blessing,
