Igrot Kodesh · Letter 4540 — Tzedakah
Volume 13 · Letter 271
B"H
20 Tammuz 5716
Brooklyn
I greet you and bless you.
I am responding to your letter from the beginning of Tammuz, in which you tell me how several people regard you, and your inability to produce what is whole and perfect.
Concerning your first paragraph, you should study, with the appropriate attention, Iggeres HaKodesh* of the Alter Rebbe*, chapter 25. You will see there that your fears are without foundation. Regarding the second point, as is the case in various domains, one must ask from which side (see note 1) such an argument emanates.
You know the story (see note 2) concerning the Tzaddik*, Rebbe Menachem Nachum of Tchernobyl (see note 3), which is related in the sicha* of Pesach 5703 (see note 4). The criterion to apply (see note 5) in this matter is stated in a sicha of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, cited in the HaYom Yom*, on the date of the 23rd of Sivan: Everything that obstructs an action that has a concrete contribution or is useful for the service of Hashem — even if it is a particularly elevated practice — is nothing but a stratagem of the yetzer hara*.
According to what your letter indicates, it seems that your reflection in these two areas prevents you from acting concretely in the domain of Chabad and the spreading of the wellsprings (see note 6). It is therefore clear and evident that this reflection is harmful, that it emanates from a source that is not pure (see note 7).
May Hashem grant that you continue your activity to strengthen the tradition of Israel by spreading the wellsprings until they reach the outside. And the assurance has been given that by adopting such activity, one knows success.
Indeed, the Heavenly Court ruled (see note 8) that in all that concerns Torah, yiras Shamayim*, and fine conduct, those who are connected to him (see note 9) and follow his path will prevail, as stated in the summaries and notes on the Tanya*, page 122.
I am surprised that you say nothing in your letter about the manner in which the auspicious days of the 12th and 13th of Tammuz (see note 10) unfolded, and especially about what has been done to extend them throughout the year in a concrete manner. No doubt you will complete all of this at the next opportunity.
With my blessing,
Notes:
