Igrot Kodesh · Letter 4545 — Health
Volume 13 · Letter 276
B"H
20 Tammuz 5716
Brooklyn
I bless you and greet you (see note 1).
I am responding to your letter of the 11th of Tammuz. You ask me about a study partner in Chassidus* for your husband. It would be good for you to address the leaders of the Chabad youth association. Indeed, this is one of the purposes of this association, and they will therefore do everything in their power in this area.
Nevertheless, one point must be noted. It is true that one of the means of acquiring Torah is to attach oneself to friends. However, if at a certain time or for any reason it is impossible to find a friend or even a guide, it is quite clear that one is not exempt from studying, neither this part of Torah nor any other part (see note 2).
Moreover, it is equally evident that one who knows the revealed dimension of Torah and Ethics, who has access to these texts himself and, over time, has become accustomed to them, must nonetheless put into practice, in this part of Torah (see note 3): "You shall make efforts and they will be crowned with success." This effort must be interpreted in the most literal sense. One must invest one's mind in this reflection.
Consequently, one must not be distressed if the knowledge and perception of these concepts seem, at first glance, not to be as clear as they should be. Likewise, it does not matter if one does not understand, at first, the precise meaning of every word.
You will surely be able to obtain the Kuntres Limud HaChassidus* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, in which you will find, particularly in chapter 11, a more detailed explanation of what has just been said.
No doubt you participated, as well as your husband, in the Chassidic farbrengen* of the days of the liberation (see note 4), the 12th and 13th of Tammuz, each according to his or her ability. May Hashem grant that you know success and that you retain its influence during the coming days, weeks, and months.
You say nothing about your state of health, and I am hopeful that you have forgotten all about it (see note 5), as I wrote in my letter, because you are in good health.
With my blessing for good news,
For the Rebbe Shlita*,
the secretary,
E. Kwint
