To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Uriel (see note 1),

I greet you and bless you.

I duly received your letter of the 15th of Tammuz and the previous one, along with what it contained. I am surprised that you say nothing of the visit you were to make to certain persons regarding what we discussed about spreading the wellsprings (see note 2) — by establishing a fixed study of Chassidus* (see note 3). Furthermore, our master (see note 4) specifies that this fixing is not only in time but also in the spirit.

No doubt you will complete what has not been done until now, in action and in writing. Certainly, it seems that you fear you will not receive a warm welcome. Nevertheless, the Jewish people have resources (see note 5), and in various places you will know success, at least to a certain extent.

This can be compared to the honey cake one receives on the eve of the holy day (see note 6). If it has been decreed that in a certain domain you are not to be received in a truly warm manner, Heaven forbid, may Hashem grant that you discharge this obligation by speaking of the study of this deep teaching of Torah — Chassidus, the luminary of Torah — especially since this worry is generally exaggerated.

For my part, I have made no public statement, but it seems that it has been announced externally that I am endeavoring to publicize the halachic* ruling concerning travel on Israeli ships that also operate during Shabbos* (see note 7). I thank you for letting me know the situation and how matters are developing.

I send you my blessing for considerable success in your personal concerns and in your treatment. No doubt you and your wife, whom Hashem will grant long life, will visit the holy sites. You will leave a note there so that the wish of your hearts (see note 8) be fulfilled, positively and soon.

N.B.: The young men, whom Hashem will grant long life — emissaries of the Chassidim and my representatives (see note 9) — will reach the Holy Land at the beginning of Menachem Av. No doubt, for your part, you will do everything in your power so that this mission be a success — in particular its essential aspect, the spreading of the wellsprings outward, which we discussed before your journey (see note 10).

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מט"ו תמוז והקודם לו עם המוסגר בו, ולפלא שאין מזכיר ע"ד ביקורו אצל האנשים אודותם דברנו בהנוגע להפצת המעינות ע"י הנהגת לימוד החסידות באופן קבוע, כדרישת רבנו קביעות לא רק בזמן אלא גם קביעות בנפש, ובטח ימלא בזה בפעולה וגם בכתיבה מה שלא נעשה עד עתה, ואף שכנראה חושש לסבר הפנים בו יקבלוהו, תקותי שלא אלמן ישראל ח"ו ובכמה מקומות יצליח במדה מסוימת וע"ד לקיחת חלק בערב יום הקדוש הרי אם נגזר ח"ו שבאיזה ענין לא יקבלוהו בספ"י בתכלית השלימות, יה"ר שיצא ידי הגזר ע"י דבורו ע"ד לימוד פנימית התורה תורת החסידות המאור שבתורה, ובפרט שבכלל ה"ז דאגה מוגזמת...

אף שמצדי לא פרסמתי הדבר, אבל כנראה שהגיע גם לחוץ, שמשתדל אני בהנוגע לפרסום הפס"ד בהפלגת אניות ישראליות הנוסעות גם בש"ק, ות"ח אם יודיע הנעשה בזה והמשך הדברים.

בברכה להצלחה מופלגה בעניניו הפרטים והטפול, ובטח יבקר הוא וכן זוגתו שתליט"א במקומות הקדושים ובהגשת פתקא למילוי משאלות לבבם לטובה בקרוב.
