To my dear friend, the Rav ...
I greet you and bless you,
I respond to your letter of the seventh day of Chanukah.
There is no doubt that you can also, with a small effort, find four good deeds to accomplish [1].
It is therefore unnecessary to become discouraged. My father-in-law, the Rebbe, has many times told me that, just as one must not attribute to oneself faults that one does not have, one must also be conscious of one's own qualities.
Experience has shown that the fact of belittling oneself in one's own eyes is, very often, a stratagem of the evil inclination to weaken or to disrupt a certain concrete achievement. Each person knows something about this.
You no doubt know that I wrote to Mr. ... concerning the publication of the discourses and talks delivered in Chicago a year ago [2]. All of this has been delayed for lack of having found funding. Now, I have, for the moment, no response.
Do you know what the situation is? Can you convince them? Some time ago, I wrote about this to our friend, Rav M. L. [3].

במענה על מכ' מנר השביעי.
הנה בלי ספק גם הוא ימצא ד' פעולות טובות...ובהשתדלות מועטה.
ונפילת הרוח אך למותר, וכמה פעמים שמעתי מכ"ק מו"ח אד"ש שכמו שא"צ לטעות בחסרונות עצמו, כך צריך כ"א לדעת מעלות עצמו.
ונסיון הורה, שלפעמים המיעוט בערך עצמו הוא מתחבולות היצר להחליש או לבלבל מעשית איזה דבר בפו"מ. וידע אינש בנפשי'...
בטח ידוע לו שכתבתי למר...ע"ד הו"ל קונטרס מאמרי ושיחות שיקאגא לתקופת השנה - והעיכוב שימציאו הם הוצאות ההדפסה. ואין מענה לע"ע.
היודע הוא המצב בזה? היכולים הם להשפיע עליהם? כתבתי זה מכבר לידידנו הרה"ח וכו' הרמ"ל שי' עד"ז.
