I greet you and bless you.

I respond to your letter of 3 Menachem Av, in which you describe the proposal made to you by the Chassid*, Rav Yitzchak Gansburg — that of assuming a position in the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak* Lubavitch schools in our Holy Land.

You accepted this proposal and informed him of your decision in writing. Then you were seized by doubt, because you are being offered to remain where you were working previously. However, you gave your agreement in writing and this document is now in the hands of Rav I. Gansburg, director of the school. If you are asked to change your mind in this matter, you must therefore direct those who approach you to Rav Gansburg. It is clear that without his consent, you cannot go back on your commitment.

To someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to emphasize that at all times and in all places, the teaching of our Sages* applies — that the fear of Hashem must precede wisdom. How much more so in this orphaned generation and in the land "upon which the eyes of Hashem are always directed, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year" (see note 1).

All of this must be constantly before the eyes of the educator and the teacher, whatever the subject he teaches (see note 2). The beginning of wisdom remains the fear of Hashem. You must seize every opportunity — and even create such opportunities — to instill the fear and love of Hashem in the students.

This will be a very powerful factor enabling them to grasp this teaching in the best possible way. With proper reflection, one can always find a way to put all of this into practice.

במענה על מכתבו מג' מנ"א. בו כותב על ההצעה שקבל מהרה"ח כו' יצחק גנזבורג שי' בהנוגע למשרה בבתי ספר אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש באה"ק ת"ו, והסכים על זה, והודיע לו הסכמתו גם בכתב, ונתעורר אצלו עתה ספק כיון שממקום משרתו בעבר מציעים לו להשאר אצלם, - ועפ"י האמור לעיל כיון שכתב הסכמתו הרי נמצא הענין בידי הרה"ח שי' גנזבורג מנהל המוסד, ואם ידרשו ממנו שינוי בזה עליו לכוון את הדורשים להרב גנזבורג, ומובן שבלא הסכמת האחרון אי אפשר לחזור מהסכמתו.

בודאי למותר לדכוותי' להדגיש אשר אם בכל הזמנים והמקומות אמרו חז"ל שהיראה צ"ל קודמת להחכמה עאכו"כ בדורנו דור יתום, ובארץ אשר עיני ה' אלקיך בה מראשית השנה ועד אחרית שנה, שמגמה זו צריכה להיות תמיד נגד עיני המחנך והמורה ושמבלי הבדל איזה מקצוע מלמד לתלמידים לכל לראש וראשית חכמה יראת ה', ועליו לנצל כל הזדמנות וגם ליצור הזדמנות להחדיר יראת שמים ואהבת השם בתלמידיו, וזה ישמש יסוד חזק לקליטתם את הלימודיהם כדרוש, ובהתבוננות המתאימה תמיד יש למצוא אופנים איך להביא הנ"ל לפועל.
