To the great Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Shlomo Zalman (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings*,

I have duly received your letter from the eve of Yom Kippur* and the one preceding it, together with what was enclosed. No doubt you have already received my response to your request for a blessing.

I asked that you be contacted by telephone and asked about the possibility of organizing Simchas Beis HaShoevah* (see note 2) in Chicago on Monday evening, the eve of the third day of Chol HaMoed* Sukkos*.

If it is useful, one of the foreign guests visiting here will participate. He will be a new face at the farbrengen* and will speak there.

This will answer the objection raised some time ago by certain people, particularly from Chicago, that one takes but does not give. To be sure, perhaps the guest who will lead will also wish to take, depending on whether he is the representative of an institution (see note 3) or not. But it is quite clear that this will be only an incidental aspect.

I propose Monday evening, because on that same evening there will be, right here, a meeting of the Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch* (see note 4), and Tuesday evening will be the eve of Hoshana Rabbah*.

בקשתי שיתקשרו עמו בטלפון ולשאלו ע"ד אפשרית דסידור שמחת בית השואבה בשיקאגא ובליל אור השלישי ג' חוהמ"ס, שאם יש תועלת בזה יבוא מי מהאורחים מחוץ למדינה המבקרים כאן בתור פנים חדשות להתועדות זו וגם יתועד, והוא במענה על הטענות מכמה זמן ומאנשי שיקאגא בפרט שלוקחים אבל לא נותנים, ואף שאפשר שהאורח המתועד ירצה ג"כ לקחת (זה תלוי אם יהי' האורח ב"כ מוסד או לא), אבל פשוט שזה יהי' בדרך טפל, ומה שכותב הנני אור ליום ג' הוא כיון שאור ליום ב' תהי' התועדות המל"ח כאן, ואור ליום ד' ה"ז ליל הוש"ר...
