To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav* Dovber (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings*,

I am responding to your letter of 8 Tishrei* and the one preceding it, together with the requests for blessing that they contained. I am surprised that you do not confirm having received my letter wishing you a good year. According to the postal schedule (see note 2), it should have reached you long ago.

I am also astonished that you do not tell me what happened during Rosh Hashanah* and Shabbos Shuvah*. No doubt this opportunity was seized in various domains.

You conclude your letter by speaking of distance (see note 3). It is clear that this is absolutely not the case. It is, on the contrary, the greatest closeness (see note 4), when one is entrusted with a mission of the highest importance. It is regarding this that it is said: "The mitzvah* falls precisely on the greatest." I am even surprised that you could entertain such an interpretation (see note 5).

With my blessing* for a joyous festival and for giving detailed news of all this,

שלום וברכה!

במענה על מכתבו מח' תשרי והקודם לו עם הפ"נ המוסגרים בהם, ולפלא שאינו מזכיר מקבלת מכתבי ברכת השנה שע"פ החשבון הי' צריך להגיע זה מזמן.

...לפלא שאינו מזכיר אודות ההנהגה בימי ר"ה וש"ש, שבודאי היתה בזה הזדמנות לנצל זה לכמה ענינים.

ובמה שמסיים במכתבו אודות ריחוק וכו', מובן שאין זה הענין כלל וכלל, ואדרבה אלא קירוב היותר גדול כשנותנים לאחד עבודה הכי חשובה, אשר עלי' נאמר דמצוה בגדול דוקא, ולפלא גם הקס"ד בזה.
