Greetings and blessings*,
I have duly received your letter of 12 Tishrei*. I am surprised that you have not written to me for such a long time. You know the assertion of our holy Torah* that every day must receive its specific content, and when one knows that one will have to report to someone (see note 1), one has more ardor and strength to multiply accomplishments. Thus, our Sages say, "If Reuven had known... (see note 2)." And your present letter is written in a very concise manner.
It is surely unnecessary to remind you of what our Sages say regarding the verse: "If you see a man unclothed, you shall cover him... and you shall not pass by your own flesh." This refers to one who is "unclothed" of Torah* and mitzvos*, as the Tana D'vei Eliyahu Rabbah* specifies. Despite this, the verse concludes with: "you shall not pass by your own flesh" (see note 3).
For someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to say more. May Hashem grant that in this domain as well, you give me good news.

(1) Give an accounting of what was actually accomplished.
(2) That his deed would be recorded in the Torah*, he would not have disturbed his father's bed.
(3) Devoting oneself to others does not authorize passing over one's own needs and obligations.

שלום וברכה!
מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מי"ב תשרי, ופלא שמשך כל הזמן לא הי' ממנו כל מכתבים, והרי ידוע פסק תוה"ק שכל יומא ויומא צ"ל עביד עבידתי', וכשיודעים שצריכים להודיע למי עד"ז ה"ז מוסיף מרץ וכח להגדלת הפעולות ע"ד מאמר רז"ל אילו הי' יודע ראובן וכו' והרי גם במכתבו זה כותב בקיצור נמרץ.
בודאי למותר לעוררו על דרז"ל עה"כ כי תראה ערום וכסיתו וגו' ומבשרך לא תתעלם, שהכוונה בערום מן התורה ומצות, וכדאיתא בתנדב"א רבא, ובכל זה הרי מסיים ומבשרך לא תתעלם והוא בשלשת הקוים דתורה, עבודה (זו עבודת התפלה) וגמ"ח, גם בהנוגע לעצמו, והאריכות לדכוותי' בדבר זה אך למותר, ויהי רצון שגם בזה יבשר טוב.
