Igrot Kodesh · Letter 4929 — Faith & Bitachon

To the great Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem and bears a sacred mission,
Rav Yitzchak (see note 1),
Greetings and blessings,
I have duly received your letter of the conclusion of Shabbos*, with the request for blessing it contained, which will be read, at a propitious time, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us.
I thank you for having taken the trouble to transmit my letter (see note 2) to the great Rav Weiss (see note 3). Surely you also showed him the previous letters, or gave him a copy, although you do not mention this in your correspondence.
I read with pleasure in your letter that you are preparing to celebrate the luminous date of Yud-Tes Kislev* (see note 4) that is approaching, as well as the 10th of Kislev* (see note 5). May Hashem grant that the inspiration continue throughout the entire year. This day makes it possible, for it is the Rosh Hashanah* of Chassidus* and all that it entails. Now, the inner dimension conditions the external aspect. Indeed, Yisrael* is likened to a deer, in the verse (Shmuel* II 1:19), in accordance with the interpretation given by our Sages at the end of Tractate Kesubos*.
You ask me about a change of formulation in the Siddur*. Before the prayer Aneinu*, "answer us," it states that it is recited "during a public fast," whereas before the blessing Shema Koleinu* (see note 6), "hear our voice," it states: "during a fast."
I am puzzled by the meaning of your question. How could it have been formulated otherwise? Before Aneinu*, this indeed concerns a public fast, whereas for Shema Koleinu*, it concerns all fasts at once. There is no superfluous wording or change here whatsoever.
I enclose what has been recently published. Surely you will make its contents available to as many as possible, for "they were numerous with you."
With blessing on the occasion of the festival of liberation and to give good news of all this,
