To the distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, of numerous accomplishments,

Rav Moshe Zeev (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 18 Kislev*, with the request for blessing it contained, which will be read at a propitious moment at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us.

You have no doubt returned home, so that all is well (see note 2). You must have taken advantage of your time in the places you visited (see note 3) to strengthen Judaism and disseminate it there — which also includes the inner dimension of the Torah*, namely Chassidus*, its customs and its practices.

Indeed, such places have a particular quality. One meets various people there, coming from different places, and one can exert upon them a positive and decisive influence. This development then also manifests itself in the places to which these men return.

These days of Kislev* are propitious for receiving such influence — in particular the 10th of Kislev*, Yud-Tes Kislev*, and Chanukah*. May Hashem grant that you devote yourself to this by putting into practice the teaching of Chanukah*, which calls for increasing the light emanating from pure oil, until it illuminates "at the door of one's house, toward the outside," from sunset onward. And in the expression of our Sages, in tractate Yevamos* 17a and in Midrash Bereishis Rabbah*, at the end of chapter 56: "Until the footsteps of the Tarmudai* disappear" — a word sharing the same etymology as Moredes*, rebellion.

A Jewish person thus has the power to suppress and completely eliminate such a spirit, by disseminating the light of the Torah* and that of its luminary — its inner dimension (see note 4).

With blessing for success in all of this,
