Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you describe the desolate situation of your city — which is nonetheless pure, since the members of the Great Assembly conferred a responsibility and a merit upon every Jew by saying (see note 1): "The soul that You have placed in me is pure."

How much more is this the case regarding education (see note 2), and because of this, you had the idea of abandoning the city, in which there is no one with whom you can engage in dialogue (see note 3).

It is no doubt unnecessary to explain at length that one solves nothing by fleeing. And if this is true for everyone, how much more is it the case for a Rav. Indeed, we have been given the assurance that an effort is never in vain, that one action is preferable to a thousand complaints.

It is certain that if you remain in this city and multiply your enthusiastic actions to strengthen Yiddishkeit* and disseminate it, not only will you prevent the situation from worsening, but moreover, you will even be able to improve it. You will deduce from this the responsibility you take upon yourself by fleeing. This is self-evident.

So that your actions be as fruitful as possible, it would be good to contact communal organizations so that they encourage your effort and participate in your achievements. You should also contact the Peilim* group, which is based on Torah*, at the following address: Rav Sh. D. Lipchitz, Yahalom 44, Ramat Gan. You will explain the situation to him and he may be able to help you.

You write that "in the State of Israel, it is impossible to file a complaint." This is not accurate, but due to our many sins, not all the existing possibilities in this matter are being exploited. This is certain.

I send you my blessing to give good news. You will tell me that you are waging an offensive battle to elevate the state of the Tradition of Yisrael*, its Torah* and its mitzvos*. In the end, it is certain that you will know success.

במענה על מכתבו בו כותב ע"ד המצב העגום במחנו הט ' (שהרי כל אחד מישראל חיבוהו וגם זיכוהו אנשי כנסת הגדולה לאמר: נשמה שנתת בי טהורה היא) ובפרט בשטח החינוך, אשר לכן עלה בדעתו לעזוב מקומו כי אין אף אחד במחנו למי לדבר וכו'.

ובודאי למותר להאריך אשר אין לתקן מצב בלתי רצוי ע"י ניסה מן המערכה, ואם בכאו"א דברים אלו אמורים עאכו"כ בנוגע לרב, ומובטחים אנו ג"כ שחזקה לתעמולה שאינה חוזרת ריקם וטובה פעולה אחת מאלף אנחות, וודאי הדבר אשר באם ישאר במחנו ויוסיף בפעולות נמרצות להחזקת היהדות והפצתה, הנה לא לבד שעי"ז יעכב שלא יוגרע המצב אלא שגם יעלה בידו להיטיבו, ומ[ז]ה מובנת האחריות בעזיבתו המערכה, וק"ל.

ומובן שבכדי שתהיינה פעולותיו מוצלחות ביותר, טוב שיתקשר עם גושים צבורים שיתמכו בהשתדלות שלו וישתתפו בפעולותיו בזה, ומהנכון שיבוא בדברים ג"כ עם חבר הפעילים התורתי (אחת הכתבת שלו, הרב ש. ד. ליפשיץ, יהלם 44 רמת גן) ויסביר לו המצב, ואפשר יוכל לבוא לעזרתו.

ומ"ש ש"במדינת ישראל א"א להשמיע שום ערעור", לא כן הדבר אלא שבעוה"ר אין מנצלים כל האפשריות שבזה, וק"ל.
