To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I learned with pleasure, during a conversation with Rav Kohen, that he meets with you from time to time and that you assist him in his business, particularly in matters concerning precious stones.

It is surely unnecessary to emphasize to you how important this is, as established by the halachah*, which makes reference to the one who provides work to others. I hope that in the future, you will not only continue in this direction but, of course, will develop all of this — more frequently and for larger amounts.

Relying on the statement of our Sages that "one counsels eagerness to those who naturally possess it," I write all of this to you, nevertheless, in order to emphasize its importance. You will also consult the Shulchan Aruch*, Yoreh Deah*, drawing upon Tractates Shabbos* 63a, Pesachim* 53b, upon the Mishnah* at the end of Tractate Horayos*, which states: "The Kohen* takes precedence" (see note 2), and other texts as well.

I extend my blessing that you earn your livelihood more abundantly. In this way, the well-known saying of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch, will be fulfilled in you: "Hashem gives Jews material goods so that they make of them spirituality."

Awaiting your good tidings, regarding all that has been said and regarding the positive actions you are undertaking to expand the yeshivah* that you have founded, quantitatively and qualitatively,

ובודאי למותר האריכות בגודל מעלת ענין זה וכמובא גם לפסק הלכה, ממציא לו מלאכה כו' ותקותי שלהבא לא רק שינהג ככה אלא גם יוסיף בזה ככל האפשרי לזמנים תכופים יותר ובענינים גדולים יותר, אלא שנשען על מרז"ל אין מזרזין אלא למזורזין, כותב הנני על דבר זה ולא נצרכה אלא להעדפה, וראה גם כן שולחן ערוך יורה דעה ע"פ מרז"ל שבת סג, א. פסחים נג, ב. משנה סוף הוריות, כהן קודם כו' ובכמה מקומות.

בברכה להרחבת פרנסתו הוא ואשר יקויים בה פתגם הידוע של רבנו הזקן בעל התניא והשולחן ערוך, אז השם יתברך גיט אידן גשמיות און זיי מאכען פון גשמיות רוחניות.
