Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter from the conclusion of Shabbos* Parshas Shemos*.
You deduce from what I wrote to you that the actions you are currently undertaking for a proper education are not those to which I referred and which I encourage. I am surprised by this, for it is quite obvious that education in sacred values, drawing the hearts of students close to our Father Who is in Heaven, to His Torah and His mitzvos*, are indeed the most important accomplishments, and our Sages describe them as a "divine mission."
Nevertheless, this alone does not suffice to fulfill one's obligation in the proper manner. Thus, our Sages say of Nakdimon* (see note 1): "He did not act as he should have," even though he had devoted a considerable sum to tzedakah* (see note 2). This is self-evident.
If this applies to everyone, how much more so is it the case for those who have had the merit of tasting Chassidus*, its customs and its practices. A specific capacity to act has thereby been granted to them, and their actions must therefore be in accordance with "the great principle of the Torah" (see note 3), which is: "You shall love your fellow as yourself." One of the essential points in this regard is the dissemination of the wellsprings (see note 4), which includes education based on sacred values.
You also write that your current work is difficult. But you will deduce from what has just been stated that all difficulties are justified, provided that one achieves an accomplishment as important as this.
May Hashem* grant you success, so that you redouble your ardor in all the domains just mentioned. You will also strengthen the time you fix for the study of the revealed dimension of the Torah and of Chassidus. Very soon, you will give me good tidings of all this.
With my blessing,
For the Rebbe, shlita*,
