To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Hillel* (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 6 Shevat and, at a propitious moment, I will mention the name of this man, may Hashem grant him long life, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, so that his state of health may improve.

You know the saying of our holy masters that "if one tells oneself that all will be well, all will indeed be well." How much more does this apply to the condition from which this man suffers, as you describe it in your letter and as the doctors all agree in defining it.

You will surely find the appropriate words to explain to him that one must place one's trust in Hashem, as our holy books explain. You will also ask him to make an addition to his Torah and mitzvos* observance, in accordance with his own situation, even if it is already satisfactory. For the Torah and the mitzvos are "longer than the earth," and "Your mitzvah is very broad." An addition is therefore always possible.

Based on what is stated in several Chassidic discourses, it is a certainty and a self-evident truth that to the soul of Moshe* our master, which ascended on high and is in Gan Eden*, the statement also applies that "the Sages know no rest — not even in the World to Come." He has therefore been studying Torah for several millennia, even though he himself received it on Sinai*.

במענה על מכתבו מו' שבט, בעת רצון יזכירו את... שליט"א על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע להטבת מצב בריאותו, וידוע פתגם כ"ק רבותנו נשיאנו, טראכט גוט וועט זיין גוט, ובפרט במיחושו של הנ"ל כפי שכת"ר מתארו במכתבו גם הרופאים מסכימים ע"ז הסכם מוחלט, ובודאי ימצא האותיות המתאימות להסבירו ענין זה של בטחון ע"פ המבואר בספרים הק' וכן מהוספה בעניני תורה ומצות מתאים למעמדו ומצבו של הנ"ל שאף אם הוא טוב, בכ"ז הנה כיון שהתורה והמצוה ארוכה מארץ מדה ורחבה מצותך מאד, יש תמיד מקום להוספה.

ומוכרח ומובן עוד יותר ע"פ המבואר בכ"מ במאמרי דא"ח אשר נשמת משה רבנו שעלתה למרום ונמצאת בגן עדן גם עלי' נאמר ת"ח אין להם מנוחה וכו' לא בעולם הבא שלומד תורה זה כמה אלפים שנה אף שהוא קבל תורה מסיני...
