To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*,

Rav Shalom DovBer* (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

Surely you are devoting yourself to the need of the moment, which is the dissemination of the wellsprings (see note 2) outward, in addition to the sacred mission entrusted to you (see note 3), which also has the same content (see note 4). I am surprised that you say nothing to me about such activities.

One can verify in practice that too great a modesty in this matter has the effect of reducing accomplishments, even if one can accept that this sentiment may be positive for the person himself, since it eliminates the risk of pride and self-satisfaction.

Nevertheless, of what importance is one's individual interest in this matter, compared to the benefit that can result for the many from the dissemination of the wellsprings outward? This is self-evident. And one may consider that the commandment applies here: "Do not be overly pious" (see note 5).

...בודאי מתעסק בציווי השעה - הפצת המעינות חוצה, נוסף על משרתו בקדש שגם היא תוכנה הוא, ולפלא שאין מודיע כלל מפעולות כמו אלו. והרי רואים במוחש אשר הסדר דהצנע לכת בכגון דא - מביא להמעטת הפעולות, ואפילו את"ל שטובה היא בעבודת האדם לעצמו כיון שעי"ז נתמעט החשש לישות והכרת עצמו, במה נחשבה טובת הפרט בזה - לעומת התועלת שאפשר להביא לרבים על ידי הפצת המעינות, וק"ל.

וי"ל שגם ע"ז נאמר אל תצדק הרבה.
