Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 11 Shevat and the one that preceded it. I hasten to respond, advancing you ahead of the queue — including that of urgent correspondence — on account of the question about vaccination injections.

I am surprised that you ask me about this, for several people have already done so in Eretz Yisrael* and I responded positively (see note 1). Here, indeed, most people are vaccinated successfully. Of course, if the doses are manufactured by different laboratories, one must use those that experience has made best known.

I thank you for the good news you convey to me, since you tell me that this Chassid* who fears Hashem* is feeling better. I am astonished that he did not inform me of this himself. This is, after all, one of the means of fulfilling the commandment: "You shall love your fellow as yourself." One thereby gladdens the heart of a Jew (see note 2) by announcing good news to him — all the more so since he himself informed me of his situation before his treatment. This is self-evident.

Now, a saying of the Alter Rebbe* (see note 3) specifies that "you shall love your fellow as yourself" is the receptacle for "you shall love Hashem your Elokim*" — that the two commandments form a single entity. Not all circles have yet become aware of this.

To change the subject while remaining in the same context: you describe to me the relations that exist between certain individuals, and this situation also stems from a deficiency in the commandment "you shall love your fellow as yourself," Heaven forbid. Now, this severe expression is not yet sufficient to describe the importance of all this and of what results from it.

As I have already written many times, the verse gives the assurance that: "As the face reflects in water, the heart of man reflects in that of his fellow." But this verse does not specify who changes his heart first (see note 4). Whoever does so has the merit of being considered a great one of the Torah, according to the well-known statement of Rabbi Akiva* on this subject (see note 5). This commandment thereby underpins the second one (see note 6), with which it forms a single entity, according to the saying of the Alter Rebbe cited earlier.

It is known, indeed, that by fulfilling a mitzvah*, a person becomes a receptacle for it, as various texts explain, in particular the Tanya*. And there is no need to say more, so self-evident is this.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מי"א שבט (והקודמו) וממהר הנני לענות עליו שלא בתור אפילו של מכתבים התכופים מפני ענין הזריקות לחיסון, אף שלפלא שאלתו בזה שהרי כמה מאה"ק כבר שאלוני ועניתי להם בחיוב כיון שכאן עושים זה רובם ככולם ובהצלחה, ומובן שבאם ישנם זריקות מתוצרת בתי סממני רפואה שונים צריך להשתמש בזו הבדוקה ומנוסה.

ת"ח על הבשו"ט מהטבת מצב בריאות הוו"ח אי"א מו"ה... ולפלא שבעצמו לא הודיע עד"ז, והרי זהו אחד האופנים בקיום מצות ואהבת לרעך כמוך ע"י שמשמחים לב איש הישראלי בבשורה טובה ובפרט זה שהודיע מקודם ע"ד המצב שלפני הטפול, וק"ל, וכנראה שפתגם רבנו הזקן אשר ואהבת לרעך כמוך היא כלי וגם חד עם ואהבת את ה' אלקיך, עדיין לא חדר לכל החוגים.

ומענין לענין באותו ענין, במ"ש אודות היחסים שבין... שגם זה הסתעפות משלילת הציווי ר"ל של ואהבת לרעך כמוך, ואין עדיין ביטוי חריף זה מספיק לחשיבות הענין ולהתוצאות שלו, וע"פ מה שכבר כתבתי כ"פ הבטחת הכתוב כמים הפנים לפנים כן לב האדם לאדם אין הכתוב מחלק מי לראשונה משנה לבו, וכל הקודם זכה בכלל גדול בתורה כמאמר רבי עקיבא הידוע בזה, ובהעשות מרכבה לשני הואהבת שחד הוא ע"פ פתגם רבנו הזקן האמור, וכידוע שבעשות מצוה נעשה האדם מרכבה למצוה זו, וכמבואר בכ"מ ומהם בספר התניא, ואין להאריך בדבר הכי פשוט...
