Greetings and blessings,

Obviously, there is no need for you to apologize for the content of your previous letters, as I have already written several times to various Chassidim*. You describe the situation as it is, without embellishment or artifice, even when it is not positive. You must indeed report the truth as it is.

You should not apologize when transmitting such news, since it is quite clear that one must not hide reality. The Chassidim of previous generations had already adopted this attitude, as you know — and how much more so must our generation do the same, an orphan generation.

For all these reasons (see note 1), one must indeed, in the end, transmit unsatisfactory information emanating from people who, for the moment, are not friends. Consequently, one does not fear exaggeration or embellishment (see note 2) regarding them. And this serves to establish that, when receiving news from friends and those close to us, an additional bitterness is averted (see note 3). There is no need to say more, so evident is this.

Of course, all of this applies equally to the other Chassidim of your city (see note 4).

(2) To condemn them more clearly, since they are not friends. One does not hesitate to do so.

(3) The bitterness of not receiving good news from friends and obtaining only bad news from those who are not friends. It follows that one should not hesitate to write to the Rebbe.
