To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*

and devotes himself to communal needs,

who carries out a sacred mission, Rav Yisroel HaKohen* (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received the list (see note 2) and the check. The amount appears to indicate that it is a tzedakah* for the year, and I have therefore transmitted it to the fund of three hundred and eighty-five days (see note 3).

May Hashem grant that, just as this tzedakah has a general scope, you also fulfill each day of the coming year the injunction of our holy Torah according to which "each day has its own content," regarding the Torah and the mitzvos*.

This concerns, in particular, one who carries out an important communal mission and who must therefore act on behalf of the many. Now, Divine Providence has precisely entrusted you with a role in the domain of proper education. Nothing is more important than this, especially in this orphan generation. And if one truly seeks it, one can find a way to instill in the students the fear of Hashem, the ardor for the study of the Torah, and the practice of the mitzvos in the finest manner.

But, of course, in order to convince one's fellow, one must first soak oneself to the point of soaking others, in all these domains. This is self-evident.

נתקבלה רשימת השמות בצרוף ההמחאה, וכנראה מהסכום זוהי תרומת השנה ונמסרה לקופת שפ"ה, ויהי רצון שבדוגמת צדקה כללית זו, הנה בכל יום מימות השנה הבע"ל יקוים ציווי תוה"ק אשר כל יומא ויומא צ"ל עביד עבידתי' בעניני תורה ומצות, ולאיש אשר עמדה לו בצבור מהעיקרים בזה בענינים הנוגעים לרבים, והרי זיכתו ההשגחה העליונה להיות פעיל בעניני חינוך הכשר ואין לך דבר גדול מזה ובפרט בדורנו דור יתום, וכשמחפשים באמת מוצאים הדרכים איך להחדיר בהתלמידים והמחונכים בכלל יראת שמים התמדה בלימוד התורה והידור בקיום המצות,

אלא שמובן שבכדי לפעול על אחרים צריכים להיות במדה של טופח על מנת להטפיח בכל ענינים אלו, וק"ל.
