Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you ask me once again in which Yeshivah* you should continue your studies. Indeed, you wish to take advantage of this time to observe the greatness of Judaism (see note 1).

I have already given you my opinion in this matter. You should go to the Yeshivah Tomchei Temimim* of Brunoy (see note 2). On the one hand, this is within your means, from the standpoint of the expenses that will result. On the other hand, and this is essential, you wish, as you write to me, not to stray from the right path, which Hashem* forbid. For this, you must not "observe the greatness of Judaism" but, on the contrary, introduce within yourself a great measure of the fear of Hashem, in accordance with the teaching of the Mishnah* according to which: "For one who places the fear of Hashem before wisdom, his wisdom endures."

I am hopeful that if you indeed go to the Yeshivah Tomchei Temimim of Brunoy, study there with ardor and constancy, and adopt the Yeshivah's program, you will be able to acquire this quality (see note 3).

I send you my blessing that He Who gives the Torah, the Creator of the world Who directs it, guide you on the path that is good for you — the one that has just been defined. On the occasion of your birthday, in particular, you will surely adopt the customs of that day (see note 4) and you will have a year of success, materially and spiritually.

במענה על מכתבו בו כותב עוד הפעם בהנוגע לשאלה לאיזה ישיבה יסע ללמוד, ושרוצה לנצל הזמן לראות היהדות הגדולה וכו'.

כבר כתבתי לו, לדעתי שיסע ללמוד בישיבת תומכי תמימים בברונא, ונוסף על שזהו ביכולתו מפני ההוצאות, הנה עוד זאת והוא העיקר שבכדי כמו שכותב הוא, לא לעזוב ח"ו את הדרך הישר, העצה לזה לא שיראה היהדות הגדולה אלא לקבל לתוכו מדה גדולה של יראת שמים וכמאמר המשנה מי שיראתו קודמת לחכמתו חכמתו מתקיימת, ותקותי חזקה שבאם יסע לתומכי תמימים דברונא וילמוד שם בהתמדה ושקידה ויתנהג מתאים לסדרי הישיבה, יקבל פעולה האמורה.

בברכת אשר נותן התורה בורא העולם ומנהיגו ינחהו בדרך הטובה לפניו כאמור.

ובפרט בקשר עם יום הולדתו - ובטח נהג במנהגי יום זה - שתהי' שנת הצלחה אצלו בגו"ר.
