To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*,

Rav Moshe Zeev* (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

After an interruption, I received with pleasure your letter from the Wednesday of the Parshah of the giving of the Torah (see note 2), in which you tell me of your visit to the Chabad* institutions and of the manner in which you observed them.

I took note with satisfaction of the improvements you have already been able to bring about. Without a doubt, this has given you the energy necessary to intensify your action (see note 3). Indeed, the merit of the public comes to your aid.

It would be good to integrate into your effort also an action among the Chassidim*, so that they become aware of the great importance, for them, of being active in all that concerns Chabad in particular and Judaism in general. They must not content themselves with receiving the influence of others. Of course, the following words of the Rambam*, in his Hilchos Teshuvah*, chapter 3, paragraph 4, must not apply to them: "Awaken from your slumber, you who are asleep."

Your intervention has been fruitful in other domains, and I therefore have good reason to hope that you will know success in this one as well. When those who come to your aid multiply, some will be able to help you in this domain. Then you will be able to engage the Chassidim in activities filled with enthusiasm and of great scope.

Although you say nothing about your wife, I hope that she takes an active part in all these accomplishments, as has always been the case.

לאחרי ההפסק נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מיום הרביעי פרשת מתן תורה בו כותב פרטים מביקורו במוסדות חב"ד והשקפתו על עניניהם, ונעם לי לקרות במיוחד אודות התיקונים שכבר עלה בידו לתקן, אשר בודאי עי"ז נתוסף בו מרץ כ"פ ככה להוסיף בהשתדלותו בזה והרי זכות הרבים מסייעת. ומהנכון הי' שגם יכניס בהשתדלותו את הענין דלעורר את אנ"ש על ההכרח הכי גדול להעשות פעילים בעניני חב"ד בפרט ובעניני יהדות בכלל, לא להסתפק להיות בבחי' מקבלים השפעה בזה, ופשיטא שלא להיות ח"ו באותה הדרגא עלי' כותב הרמב"ם עורו ישנים כו' מתרדמתכם (הל' תשובה פ"ג הלכה ד'). וכיון שהצליח בהשתדלות בשטחים אחרים תקותי שגם בזה תאיר ההצלחה פניו אליו, וכשיתרבו עוזריו בטח ימצא עוזרים גם בנקודה זו, זאת אומרת בגיוס אנ"ש לפעולות נמרצות ולפעולות מורחבות.

אף שאינו מזכיר אודות זוגתו תחי' תקותי אשר כמנהגו מאז לוקחת גם עתה חלק פעיל בפעולות האמורות.
