To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from the end of the month of Shevat*, to which were attached the notebooks of your commentaries on the Talmud (see note 2). You have been advised that it would be good to publish them, in the interest of those who study the Daf Yomi* (see note 3).

You must consult with those who are familiar with this study and, based on that, you will make a decision. In this matter, there are surely differences. However, there is a point common to all forms of this study: it is limited to one page of Gemara* per day. There are, moreover, higher limitations and lower ones. This indicates to you how these explanations and commentaries should be written, in order to suit such a study.

May Hashem grant that, with breadth of mind and in good health, you redouble your ardor to grow and to adorn the Torah — its revealed part and Chassidus* — studying it in order to apply it. This condition applies to the revealed part of the Torah as well as to Chassidus. Indeed, our holy masters require that a final synthesis be drawn from every idea.

במענה על מכתבו משילהי שבט בצירוף עם המחברות חידושיו בש"ס, ושאמרו לו שכדאי להדפיס לטובת לומדי הדף יומי וכו'.

והנה יש להתייעץ בזה עם אותם היודעים אופן לימוד זה שבהתאם לזה יוכל להחליט ע"ד הנ"ל. ואף שבטח גם בזה חילוקים ישנם בכ"ז ישנו הצד השוה בשיעור זה, כיון שמוגבל הוא, לימוד הדף גמרא ליום דף גמרא ליום, הגבלות למעלה והגבלות גם למטה, שמזה ג"כ הוראות לאופן החידושים והביאורים המתאימים ללימוד כזה.

ויה"ר שמתוך הרחבת הדעת ובריאות הנכונה יוסיף חיילים להגדיל תורה ולהאדירה, לימוד הנגלה ולימוד החסידות, ובאופן דללמוד ע"מ לעשות, שגם זה תנאי הן בלימוד הנגלה והן בלימוד החסידות שהרי נשיאנו הק' דורשים שמכל ענין יהי' בכן.
