Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of this Sunday, in which you briefly describe your life. You conclude by asking me about how to establish yourself in the future.

You inform me of two proposals (see note 1). Now, you studied for some time at the Yeshivah* and you began studies to receive rabbinical ordination (Semichah*). It would therefore be good to continue these studies until you obtain it.

You tell me that you are not certain you could be a Rav*. In fact, there are more and more communities seeking a rabbi who has the fear of Hashem. Yet, "the weak one says: I am mighty" (Yoel 4:10) (see note 2). It is virtually certain that your doubts regarding your abilities are unfounded. And nothing resists determination.

If you need additional training to influence others (see note 3), in order to succeed as a Rav*, you will obtain that as well.

P.S.: Without a doubt, you know and observe the three well-known studies, concerning the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*. At the very least, you will do so in the future.

(1) That of being the Rav* of a community, and a second one that the Rebbe does not even mention.

(2) Such that those who apply for rabbinical positions are not competent to do so.

(3) A quality necessary for a Rav*, which the recipient of this letter thinks he does not possess.

במענה על מכתבו מיום הראשון, בו כותב ראשי פרקים מדברי ימי חייו, ומסיים בשאלה לחוות דעתי בהנוגע להסתדרותו בעתיד.

ומשתי האפשריות אודותן כותב, הנה כיון שלמד כמה זמן בישיבה ובזה גם משך זמן לימוד ע"מ לקבל היתר הוראה, מהנכון שימשיך בלימוד זה עכ"פ עד שיקבל סמיכה, ובמה שמסתפק אם היכולת בידו להיות רב וכו', הנה כיון שמספר הקהלות הצריכים לרבנים יראי שמים הולך וגדול - גם החלש יאמר גבור אני וגו', ובפרט שקרוב לומר אשר החששות שלו בכשרונותיו בהנ"ל אינן מבוססות, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, שאם נצרך לאיזה השלמה להשפעה על הזולת וכיו"ב בכדי להצליח במשרת רב וכו' גם זה יבוא...
