By the grace of Hashem,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of this Sunday.

As you request, I will mention your name and that of your wife near the holy resting place (Ohel*) of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, so that the wish of your heart may be fulfilled and you will have a child.

Based on what is explained in various texts, it is clear that you must influence your surroundings by spreading and strengthening Yiddishkeit* (Judaism) within it (see note 1). Our Sages state regarding this: "What are fruits? They are the Mitzvos*," and "One who teaches Torah* to the child of his fellow is considered as if he had given birth to him."

In this way, Hashem will act middah* k'neged middah* (measure for measure) (see note 2), but in greatly increased proportion. He will therefore grant you a child, and you will fulfill in the most literal sense the commandment: "And you shall teach your children" (V'shinantam l'vanecha*), in addition to the interpretation that this verse alludes to students. And nothing resists determination.

Moreover, there are surely in Los Angeles Jews who observe the Torah* and Mitzvos*, who will be able to participate in the mission defined above and lend their assistance.

You have no doubt met the Chassid*, Rav Reitchik (see note 3). It would be good for you to study Chassidus* with him.

May Hashem grant you success.

וע"פ המבואר בכ"מ, מובן שככל שיוסיף בהשפעה בסביבתו בהפצת היהדות והחזקתה, שע"ז אמרו רז"ל מאי פרי מצות, וכל המלמד את בן חבירו תורה כו' כאילו ילדו, הנה במדתו של הקב"ה שהיא מדה כנגד מדה אלא שכמה פעמים ככה השכר הוא בזחו"ק ולקיום ושננתם לבניך כפשוטו נוסף על הפירוש אלו התלמידים, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, ובפרט שבטח נמצאים בלאס אנדזעלעס מספר יהודים שומרי תומ"צ שיוכלו להשתתף ולסייע בעבודתו בהנ"ל.

בטח נפגש עם הרה"ח כו' רייטשיק שי', ומהנכון שיקבעו יחד לימוד בתורת החסידות, והשי"ת יצליחו.
