and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

We did not have the opportunity to see each other at the Hilula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us (see note 2), although I inquire about you and frequently receive news of you.

I therefore take the opportunity of Purim Katan*, since this day and the month in which it falls, Adar Rishon*, come within the scope of the directive of our Sages according to which: "From the beginning of Adar*, one increases one's joy." I express the wish that the joy of this month and these days extend throughout the entire year.

This joy will be in accordance with the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov* and Chassidus*. It will be a joy of the spirit and of the body, a joy inspired by spiritual matters and material concerns. You will experience it in good health and with genuine breadth of spirit.

In a pleasant vein, one could say that "this small one will be great" (see note 3). Purim Katan* introduces a small joy, but this joy breaks through all limits. Thus, all the children of Israel, including each one of us, will merit the fulfillment of the promise: "You shall raise the head of the children of Israel" — to bring them out of constriction and limitation, to know expansiveness in all domains.

כיון שלא הזדמן להתראות ביום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אף ששואל הנני וגם מקבל הנני פ"ש מהנעשה אתם לעתים קרובות.

הנני מנצל הענין וההזדמנות דפורים קטן, שגם הוא והחדש שלו אדר ראשון נכנסים בציווי חז"ל משנכנס אדר מרבין בשמחה, ולאחל אשר השמחה תומשך מחדש וימים אלו על כל השנה כולה, ושמחה מתאימה לתורת הבעש"ט תורת החסידות, שמחת הנפש וגם שמחת הגוף, שמחה מענינים הרוחנים ושמחה מענינים הגשמים, שתבוא מתוך בריאות והרחבת הדעת אמיתית, ובצחות הלשון דהכתוב זה הקטן גדול יהי', הנה מפורים קטן זה, שגם שמחה קטנה עלי' נאמר שמחה פורץ גדר, יזכו כל בני ישראל וכאו"א מאתנו בכללם, לקיום היעוד, תשא את ראש בני ישראל להוציאם מן המיצר והגבול - אל המרחב בכל עניניהם.
