Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your letters of January 27 and February 13. I hasten to send you my reply, for I observe, in your correspondence, your perplexity. Indeed, you were told how they intended to photograph (see note 2) the Sefer HaRikma* (see note 3).

From what I know of the offset technique, which we have extensively used, it is always possible to reproduce a book as it is. The work to be done on its text and the introduction of notes are not carried out on the original, but on the offset copy. However, in such a case, one must photograph twice (see note 4) and therefore pay double.

This can also be done in a library, since the largest ones have a photocopy service, especially when scientific research is being conducted, in which case they permit copying the works they make available. When the time comes, one will be able to determine the price and find out where the book is located.

To my knowledge, it is not permitted for a library to give a book so that it may be cut apart and then reconstituted. Of course, a private individual who possessed it could give it for this purpose. Perhaps you know whether your husband gave this book as a gift to certain people when it was published. If so, one can perhaps address such a request to them (see note 5).

Naturally, one should photocopy from the library's copy only the pages that contain notes (see note 6). For if there are none, one can photocopy your own copy just once, which will reduce printing costs.

In any case, all of this can wait, in my opinion. First, the preparation of the notes must be completed. Afterward, a solution will be found that avoids soiling the original.

ומה שכותב בנוגע לדברי הרופאים.

ידוע הכלל וההנהגה של כל יהודי ,שיש להתנהג על פי הוראות

תורתנו הק׳ ,וכיון שרבותנו הק׳ אומרים לנו ,שהתורה נתנה רשות

לרופא לרפאות ,הרי זה סימן ברור שהרופא הוא שליח ,ואף אם לא

תמיד יודע השליח את הכוונה הפנימית ,אבל מה שהשליח אומר בנוגע

לפועל ,הרי זה מהמשלח ,ובכזה אופן זהו דבר תורה ,ומזה מובן שגם

לא צריכה להיות לכך השפעה על הציות ,לעשות מה שהרופא מורה,

ולכן הנני בטוח שכשיקבל את מכתבי יתחיל לציית ,לעשות את מה

שהרופא מורה ,והשם יתברך יתן שהציות והעשי׳ ע״פ הוראותיהם יהי׳

בהצלחה מופלגה בכל הענינים,

וגם מובן מעצמו ,שההנהגה לא לאכול בזמן ,לאכול רק פעם אחת

ביום וכיוצא בזה ,היא בהחלט לא דרך הבעל שם טוב אודותה שמענו

פעמים רבות מרבותינו נשיאנו הק׳ ,שצריך להיות עזב תעזב עמו ,עם

הגוף ,אבל לא ע״י תעניות וסיגופים.
