Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 16 Adar Rishon*, in which you tell me that various events have befallen you and the members of your family, and you do not know the cause.

I observe in your letter that your wife's name is Chaya Sarah Mirel, and your mother's name is Chaya Sarah. I would like to know how you call your wife in practice — by these three names, or in another manner. In any event, one should endeavor in the future to call her in a manner as different as possible from her mother-in-law.

Likewise, it would be good to have the mezuzos* of your home and your tefillin* checked, so that they are all in conformity with the Halachah*. Each weekday, before the morning prayer, you should give a few coins to tzedakah*. And your wife should do the same before lighting the candles on the eve of Shabbos* and the festivals.

May Hashem grant you the success of giving good news of all this.

You surely know the three studies that concern everyone, instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. These concern the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*, and are well known. You will adopt them, at least from now on.

במענה על מכתבו מט"ז אד"ר, בו כותב אשר כמה מאורעות קרו לו ולב"ב שי' ואינו יודע במה להתלות.

והנה רואה אני במכתבו אשר גם זוגתו תחי' חי' שרה מירל ושם אמו חי' שרה, ואתענין לדעת איך קוראים לזוגתו תחי' בפועל, אם בכל הג' שמות או לא, ובכל אופן יש להשתדל שעכ"פ מכאן ולהבא יקראו לזוגתו תחי' באופן שיהי' שינוי הכי גדול מאופן שקוראים בשמות חמותה תחי', כן מהנכון לבדוק את המזוזות בביתם וכן את התפילין שלו שיהיו כשרים כולם כדין, ושבכל יום חול לפני תפלת הבקר יפריש איזה פרוטות לצדקה וכן תעשה זוגתו תחי' קודם הדלקת הנרות בכל ערב שבת וערב יום טוב, והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בכל האמור.

בטח יודע משלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר
