To the directors of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*,

in Lod, may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I have received your letters of 23 and 25 Adar Rishon*, with their contents.

Naturally, it is particularly positive that the students undergo examinations, and especially that one addresses them personally (see note 1).

Nevertheless, experience establishes that such an approach is infinitely more effective if, in addition to the discussion with the constituted committee (see note 2), there is another, informal one, with the person (see note 3) who is closest to the student, to whom he will easily confide. This is self-evident.

It is surely unnecessary to emphasize to you that such examinations are useful on the condition that one subsequently takes the appropriate measures to rectify whatever deficiencies may have been identified.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתביהם מכ"ג וכ"ה אד"ר עם המוסגר בהם. ומובן שנכונה במאד מאד בחינת התלמידים, והעיקר הדבור עמהם בפרטיות, אבל כפי הנראה במוחש מביא זה תועלת שלא בערך יותר, באם נוסף על כל הדבורים בועידה באופן רשמי, ישנה ג"כ שיחה באופן בלתי רשמי - מזה הקרוב לתלמיד יותר ואשר לפניו יכול לגלות כל לבו, וק"ל...
