Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter, in which you describe the positive activities you are carrying out, in addition to the mission you fulfill within the synagogue, in order to spread the wellsprings (see note 2) to the outside.

No doubt you are strengthening both domains simultaneously (see note 3), for it is quite clear that they do not contradict each other — rather, they complement each other, as the Mishnah* states: "One mitzvah* leads to another" (Avos* 4:2). One can verify in practice that this is indeed so.

You know the saying of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, according to which one must collect material goods and sow spirituality. According to him, these two activities are indeed conjoined. It would be good, when you go somewhere and exercise your influence there, to observe the people on the spot, in order to identify among them those who can continue your mission afterward. You will surely be able to find someone who, for the most part, is capable of assuming this role, even if he does not do so in every respect.

Nevertheless, as in every domain, it will be necessary to accustom and train him for this. One must therefore reflect on this question in advance, so as to be able to convince the one you find, so that he gives his agreement with a joyful heart and good will. You will show him the proper manner of action.

Of course, I am not referring to a single person who would always proceed in this manner in every place he visits. That would be very difficult for various reasons. Nevertheless, in every synagogue, in every place, you will find someone who is already there. This is self-evident.

May Hashem grant you success in this matter as well.

I send you my blessing for success in all domains. Hashem will assist you and grant you success, so that you finally make full use of your strengths within the vineyard of Chabad*, in the appropriate domain and place.

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו, בו כותב אודות פעולותיו הטובות (נוסף על מילוי ענינו בהנוגע לביהכ"נ, גם) בהנוגע להנקודה דהפצת המעינות חוצה, ובטח מוסיף בשני הענינים גם יחד, כי פשיטא שלא רק שאין בזה סתירה אלא עוד מסייע ענין אחד לחבירו, וכמובן גם מדבר משנה, מצוה גוררת מצוה. והרי רואים הענין גם במוחש, וכידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, קלייבען גשמיות און זייהען רוחניות שבחדא מחתא אמר זה. ומה טוב שבמקום שמבקר ומשפיע יתבונן בהאנשים דעל אתר ע"מ לבחור מביניהם מי שיוכל להמשיך ענינים לאחר כך ובטח יש למצוא מתאים לזה עכ"פ במדה חשובה אם לא בשלימות, אלא שכמו בכל הענינים יוצרך לחינוך והרגל בזה, שלכן נצרכה התבוננות בעוד מועד, ולמען יוכל לשדל את זה שימצא בכדי שיסכים בלבב שמח ומתוך חפץ ורצון ויורהו הדרכים איך לעשות בזה, מובן שכוונתי בזה לא לאיש אחד שיתעסק בכל המקומות שמבקר הוא שזהו דבר הקשור בקישוים גדולים מכמה טעמים אלא שבכל ביהכ"נ ומקום ימצא איש מאנשי המקום, וק"ל, והשי"ת יצליחו גם בזה.

בברכה להצלחה בכל הענינים, והשי"ת יעזרהו ויצליחו לנצל כחותיו במילואם בכרם חב"ד בענין ומקום המתאים - סו"ס.
