Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you speak of your studies at the yeshivah*. You tell me that in your view, they are not fully fruitful and you therefore think of changing your occupation in the short term.

It is clear that the solution to this problem depends on various points, involving both yourself and the members of your family. You should therefore seek the advice of your friends, who are on the spot and know this matter well.

Of course, one must take into account the fact that your age is conducive to the study of Torah*. Consequently, if you reduce it or, all the more so, if you leave the yeshivah*, it is very unlikely that you will be able to acquire what you lack (see note 1) later on. In any event, this will be very difficult. Therefore, in case of doubt, one should decide, to the extent possible, in favor of the opinion advising you to remain in the yeshivah*.

When one is at a loss and seeks the answer to a question (see note 2), one particularly needs the help of Hashem. To obtain it, it would be good to intensify your commitment to the Torah* and the mitzvos*. Thus, you should give a few coins to tzedakah* every weekday, before the morning prayer. You should observe the practice of reciting Tehillim* every day, according to their monthly division, including on Shabbos* and festivals, after the morning prayer. Finally, you should have your tefillin* checked.

במענה על מכתבו, בו כותב אודות לימודו בישיבה, ואשר לפ"ד אינו מצליח בזה כ"כ וסברא אצלו לשינוי להסתדרותו בעתיד הקרוב.

מובן שפתרון בעיא זו תלוי בכמה פרטים בהנוגע אליו ובהנוגע לבני משפחה, ולכן יתייעץ בזה עם ידידיו הנמצאים במקום ומכירים בזה ככל הצורך, ומובן שההכרח להביא בחשבון אשר בשנים אלו דגילו הוא זמן המסוגל ללימוד התורה, ובאם ימעט בזה עתה או גם יצא מכותלי הישיבה, ספק גדול הוא אם יעלה בידו לתקן את זה מה שיחסיר עי"ז בעתיד, ובכל אופן יהי' קשור זה בקישוים גדולים ביותר, שלכן במקום ספק יש להכריע להדיעה להמשיך הלימוד ככל האפשרי.

כיון כשנמצאים במבוכה ועומדים לפני פתרון שאלה זקוקים לסייעתא דשמיא ביותר שאת וביתר עז, מהנכון כדי לזכות לסיוע זה, שיוסיף בעניני תורה ומצות, ובזה גם הפרשה לצדקה איזה פרוטות בכל יום חול קודם תפלת השחר, ושישמור על התקנה דאמירת שיעור תהלים חדשי - כפי שנחלק התהלים לימי החדש - בכל יום גם בש"ק ויום טוב אחרי תפלת השחר, ושיבדקו את התפילין שלו.
