Igrot Kodesh · Letter 529 — General

By the grace of Hashem,

28 Elul* 5709,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav I.[1],

I greet and bless you,

I wish to express to you, through this letter, to you and all of yours, my wishes for a good and sweet year, in all areas.

In these days, 'the spark is close to the torch' and one who prays alone can obtain what only a community receives during the rest of the year, according to tractate Rosh Hashanah* 18a. The responsibility and obligation of those who are capable of exerting influence is therefore much greater. They must strengthen the practice of Torah* and Mitzvot* among all those around them.

Furthermore, this year, Rosh Hashanah is a Shabbat*. Now, according to the Zohar*, volume 2, page 135, it is on Rosh Hashanah, at the beginning of the year, that one is crowned with new souls.

I conclude by wishing you to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

ובימים אלו אשר המאור קרוב אל הניצוץ וכל יחיד הוא כציבור דכל השנה (ר"ה יח, א), גדולה ביותר אחריות וחובת כל איש בעל השפעה לנצל השפעתו בכל סביבתו לחזוק התורה והיהדות.

נוסף בשנה זו שיו"ט של ר"ה חל להיות בשבת, דתחלת וראש השנה הוא כד מתעטרין בנשמתין חדתין ומברכין בחדוה בנהירו דאנפין (זח"ב קל"ה).
