Greetings and blessings,

You write to me that the role entrusted to you by divine Providence consists in devoting yourself to the education of Jewish children in sacred values, and that you carry out this mission within a framework connected to our holy masters, whose merit protects us — a framework imbued with Chassidic* light and vitality.

You may deduce from this that everything that concerns you and the complete rectification (tikkun*) you must achieve (see note 1) pass through the proper fulfillment of this mission. And, from time to time, you should bring improvement to it, in accordance with the directive that one ascends in the domain of holiness.

Regarding certain points you mention in your letter, it would be good for you and your wife to make a contribution to tzedakah*, until each of you has collected a sum equivalent to the value of forty fasts. The Koves Lubavitch* specifies the corresponding amount.

Of course, you may do this without imposing heavy expenses upon yourself (see note 2), on condition that the decision be made in the most positive manner. This tzedakah* should be given, in particular, every weekday before the morning prayer, and for women, before the lighting of candles on the eve of Shabbos* and festivals.

This is in addition, of course, to the fixed time for the study of the revealed dimension of the Torah* and of Chassidus*, to the maintenance of the three well-known studies — on the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya* — and more generally, to your participation in all that concerns the Torah* and the mitzvos* in public, when the merit of the many comes to your aid.

...בקשר עם מכתבו... אשרי חלקו עליו העמידתו השגחה העליונה להתעסק בחנוך בני ובנות ישראל על טהרת הקדש נוסף על הענין במסגרת רבותנו נשיאנו הק' זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע חדורה אור וחיות חסידותי, ומזה מובן ג"כ שכל עניניו התיקון שלהם הוא המילוי שלהם בשלימותם תלוי זה בעבודתו בשטח זה כדבעי ובהוספה מזמן לזמן בשיפור עבודה זו וכהציווי דמעלין בקדש.

אלא שמתאים לאיזה ענינים עליהם כותב, מהנכון שהוא וכן זוגתו תחי' יפרישו לצדקה עד שמהפרשת כל אחד מהם יתקבץ סכום של פדיון ארבעים תעניות (וע"פ הכתוב בקובץ ליובאוויטש השיעור בזה) ומובן שאפשר זה להעשות באופן שלא יכביד על ההוצאה, ובלבד שהחלטה לעשות כן תתקבל בכי טוב, ומהזמנים להפרשת צדקה ביחוד הם, בכל יום חול קודם תפלת הבקר, ובהנוגע לנשים לפני הדלקת הנרות בערב שבת וערב יום טוב. מובן שהנ"ל הוא נוסף על הקב"ע בתורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות, שמירת שלשת השיעורים בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים ובכלל השתתפות בעניני תומ"צ הנעשים ברבים שזכות הרבים מסייעתו.
