Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 18 Adar Sheini*, in which you tell me that you are currently considering the following question. Should you accept a position teaching in a school that is affiliated with the Conservative movement? You add that you received your education in the Holy Land, that you are a member of Agudas Yisrael* and a counselor for the youth of Agudas Yisrael*.

It is quite evident that if the acceptance of this position within this school could be interpreted by those around you as an endorsement of the Conservative movement, it is then absolutely out of the question to do so. As you know, this movement is considered by the Halachah* as departing entirely from the faith.

Of course, this concerns the movement itself, but not the members of Conservative and Reform congregations. Many of them have faith in Hashem and in His Torah* in the proper manner. Nevertheless, they do not distinguish between light and darkness, holiness and impurity. This is self-evident.

Even if the previously mentioned risk does not exist, but the content of the teaching is not based on sacred values, it is certain that this project must be set aside.

If you do not face this second risk either — meaning that you will be the master of your own teaching, independently of the school, that you will not participate in their prayers and their practices — then one must, to the fullest extent possible, transmit to them the fear of Hashem, educating the students in sacred values, separating the wheat from the chaff.

However, I must say that such a situation is particularly rare and I mention it only so that this analysis of the question may be complete.

To someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to add that the education based on sacred values referred to here encompasses not only the content of your teaching, but also the other subjects learned by the students of your class before and after your lesson. Indeed, all of this constitutes a whole, and the parents who enroll their children in this school because they are satisfied with your teaching will, by the same token, subject them to all the other courses.

It seems that you have met the Chassidim* of Toronto. I therefore have good hope that you also received from them information about Chassidus*, that you have fixed a time to study its teaching, which the holy Zohar* calls: "the soul of the Torah*."

May Hashem grant you success so that you give good news of all this.

במענה על מכתבו מח"י אד"ש, בו כותב שעומדת אצלו על הפרק השאלה, אם יקבל משרת הוראה בבית הספר השייך לקונסרבטיבים, ומוסיף אשר קבל חנוכו באה"ק ת"ו, חבר הוא לאגודת ישראל ומדריך בפרחי אגודת ישראל.

מובן וגם פשוט, שבאם קבלתו משרה במוסד כהנ"ל יכול להתפרש בהסביבה כנתינת הכשר על שיטת הקונסרבטיבים, מופרך הדבר בתכלית , כיון שידוע פסק דין על השיטות האמורות - שהם כפירה גמורה.

- מובן שזהו בנוגע להשיטה, משא"כ בנוגע לחברי קהלות הקונסרבטיבים והרעפארם, שכמה מחבריהם ישנם מאמינים בה' ובתורתו ככל הדרוש, אלא שאינם מבחינים בין אור לחשך ובין קדושה לטומאה, וק"ל. -

כן מובן ופשוט שבאם אפילו אין מקום לפירוש הנ"ל, אם תוכן הלימוד אינו על טהרת הקדש, ג"כ מופרך כל הדבר.

באם גם לחשש זה אין מקום כלל, ז. א. שיהי' הוא הבעל הבית בהנוגע להלימודים ובית הספר הוא נפרד ואינו שייך לעניני תפלותיהם והנהגותיהם וכו', הנה אדרבה יש מקום להשתדלות להחדיר לשם יר"ש וע"י חינוך התלמידים על טהרת הקדש, להוציא יקר מזולל, אף שמוכרחני לאמר שמקרה כזה נדיר הוא ביותר וביותר, ולא כתבתי זה אלא לשלימות השקו"ט.

ובודאי לדכוותי' למותר להוסיף, שהכתוב לעיל בענין שהלימוד הוא על טהרת הקדש, הכוונה לא רק לאותו הלימוד שמלמד הוא, אלא גם לשאר הלימודים שהילדים דכתתו ילמדו לפניו ולאחריו, כיון שבחדא מחתא נינהו, וההורים שימסרו ילדיהם ללמוד בהמוסד, מפני ששבעים רצון הם מהלימוד שלו באופן אוטומטי ילמדו תלמידים אלו גם שאר הלימודים.

כיון שכנראה נפגש הוא עם אנ"ש שבטרנטה, תקותי שרכש לו גם כן ידיעה אודות תורת החסידות וקובע עתים בלימוד תורתה הנקראת בזה הק' נשמתא דאורייתא, והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בכל האמור.
